Is war a necessary evil?
Here come the "Chaos is inevitable" postings...
From an certain perspective, yes. War fuels economy and advance in technology, and if you are willing to go that far, it also manages overpopulation.
not saying its an good thing but if you look at that point of view.
No, it goes without saying war is immature. There are far better ways to settle things out without getting involved into physical war.

In an ideal world, major change does not need war to happen.
In an undeal world, war is a much effective means to an end when radical and immediate change is needed and/or desired.
War can be senseless, but war can also be completely effective. Many of the significant advances and changes in our history have been centered around major conflicts. If not for war, democracy might not exist. If not for war, imperialism might still be common foreign policy. If not for war, nuclear power might not exist.
If not for war, genocides of countless demographics of people may still be alive and/or un-scarred from atrocities committed.
War in and of itself is not good or evil (not that there is a definitive definition of each, more like a point of view and what you can or can't justify). War has no intentions. It is merely a means to an end. And when used properly it can be a vehicle of positive change.
Like most things in this world, it is rarely used properly.

No. It's not. War is fought because people are ignorant and prideful. It's immature, stupid, and ends precious lives.
There being no such thing as good, evil or that it's a matter of just perspective is pseudo intellectual bullsh!t. It's for people who like to think they are smart and don't want to admit that they can't see it because all the angles and consequences are beyond their limited grasp. For others it's just hard for them to accept that sometimes good doesn't always have positive effects and evil can have what appear to be positive results.
Now is war a necessary evil? I can think of certain situations where I believe it's necessary to me for particular reasons.

It could be said that those are reasons that it is.
Sometimes it is (you should have added that option too).
In defense it should always be an option so that the helpless and innocent in that nation can be protected.
@noone301994: Without war the helpless and innocent wouldn't need protecting.
@granitesoldier: Technically, yeah, I suppose.

Boom. Give this man a medal..then get jealous of it and go to war with him to take it.

Well war will always exist as long as humans remain the way they are. It'd be nice if it could be completely eradicated but that just isn't possible.
@wolverine08: Say hello to the bad guy.
@granitesoldier: You ain't nothing compared to Tony Montana I'm afraid!
@wolverine08: Except I'm, you know, real.
@noone301994: So they say... How will we ever change if we continue to believe this way?
@granitesoldier: Pftttttttttt, hater!
@africanwilds: Thank you for catching my reference <3
Seems like nobody watches Star Wars anymore :(

Bullsh*t, people would harm each other whether war existed or not.
@immortal777: People harming one another, is not a reason to go to war. There will always be crazy people. Deal with the bad eggs and then move on. War is always fought on two fronts, it is a different thing all together.
@The_Deathstroker: I feel like I made a connection. You,...you're alright.
Depends.
Depends.

There will always be bad people that get into high positions of power. Hitler, Stalin, Hussein, Mussolini, etc. When people like that have control of large armies they will use them to get what they want. Even if every nation disbanded their military and threw all of our weapons into a furnace there would eventually be one man that came to power that would decide that it's his chance to rule the world. They'll start rebuilding weapons and attempt to take over other nations and others will do the same to defend themselves. It'll start all over. It's not a matter of, "well with that attitude of course it will happen you debby downer!" Umm... No...
"When you are powerful you take what you can, when you are weak you suffer what you must."
War does, and will always exist, so war is a necessary evil to prevent war.
