what do you guys think?
Is the MCU overrated?
Not really.
No overrates the movies. The bad and the average are bad and average. The good and great are good and great. Everyone has a general consensus about wich is wich.
It's really good, it's amazing when you think about what they've accomplished with a shared universe. Is it overrated? Just a little bit. Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain America 2 & Ironman are among the best comic book movies ever made, Daredevil which is outstanding.
But the reason why I say it's overrated because people act like Ironman 2,3, Thor 1 & 2 never happened. Age of Ultron is a terrible movie imo aswell but overall MCU is a solid 8/10.
I don't think it's overrated, because there are plenty of people who b*tch about it, so that offsets all the people who praise it.
Yup, personally, but in reality, it's all opinion.
If you love the movies, you'll say no and if you don't, like me, you'll say yes. So there isn't an objective answer.
I think the supposedly epic battles they end most of the movies with tend to really be snore fests but that's hardly an MCU failing as much as it is a constant challenge for any director and editing team. Few if any movies get those done right and they have managed it a couple times across several movies (IM1, GotG, Hulk,). The time they spend on character development is generally well done and often too brief with a few exceptions (the whole middle of IM2).
Could they use more polish? Yes. But I think most people know that. These are action movies at their core. The fact that we get any good character development is gravy. The fact that they tie in fairly well is an amazing accomplishment.
No. I think the fact they have built and are still building a movie universe is fantastic and was something I never expected to see. More should take leaf out of their book.
Technically, it's not overrated but because we have a few fans that treat marvel like they do no wrong...I find it a slight bit overrated, just as someone else pointed out, they forget about half of the movies which ranged from crap to decent, I like the MCU but honestly after I saw the great reviews of age of ultron, ice given up on it(I thought the movie was ok, but I also felt cheated because of ultrons portrayal). I'm headed over to the DCCU but being a comic book fan, I'm still watching every single CBM coming out in the next 5 years
@redatom1234: do you know how many Cbm are coming out in the next 5 years?
@rpgesus: why was AoU a piece of trash?
It's my third favorite MCU movie.
Yes. It's a great accomplishment, but only about a third of the films are great. The others range from mediocre to horrible.
I think that the MCU is revolutionary and I respect it for starting a shared universe, forcing DC to step up with their own shared universe, and some of the films are good. Iron-man one, both the Captain America films, Guardians of the Galaxy, and both the Avengers are good films. However, collectively as a whole, it is incredibly overrated, the Thor films are decent, the other Iron-mans are terrible, and the films end with the universe unchanged when you think about it (other than Hulk being in space and 3 new Avengers joining, what happened at the end of Ultron that completely changed the world?) it also has terrible power scaling...
Also let's give credit where credit is due, the DC Animated Universe was the first place, outside comics, that tried something like this.
And the Dark Knight Trilogy is better.
Yes. It's a great accomplishment, but only about a third of the films are great. The others range from mediocre to horrible.
I think it's an incredible accomplishment but it's far from flawless.
I think this is the best, and most mature way to put it.
Yes, but that only goes to show how much better there marketing is than dc's. Marvel knows how to fill seats, regardless of the quality of their films.
IMO Both Thor movies were boring, CA 1 was stale, F4 and Punisher Warzone were forgettable (I know because I literally forgot their existence before typing this post), and the Hulk, the Iron Man Sequels, and 4/5ths of the Xmen franchise were trash.
Everything else was good, but again, that's really only about a 1/4th of the movies.
Edit: Forgot Spiderman! Raimi's first 2 were fine, the rest was meh.
@dngn4774: are you on drugs?
@the_dark_void: Which ones were you defending from the boring or bad list?
@dngn4774: most of the movies you mentioned are not MCU.
And disagree with a lot of things in your post, but that was not my point.
In the past few years, they've only released one good film (Winter Soldier), while the rest were either terrible (Dark World, Age of Ultron, & Iron Man 3) or mediocre (GotG). All the Phase 1 films were great though.
So I would say it is, at least in recent years.
@benk111: all of the movies you mentioned are disliked by the Vine in general. I don't get why you're saying they get passed.
Overrated.. Hmm.
Given the populous determines what's good or not, I'd say no. In some aspects I guess but I think it's rated just fine. It's preference, yet I'd love any movie just as much as the MCU films.
Subjective question.
People willing poop on The Dark World and IM3. So its not like everyone praises every movie unfalteringly. Most point out where the movies fail. And most people acknowledge the lack of quality in AoU despite it being an immensely fun movie. Some may overrate TWS a little bit but I wouldn't say the MCU is overrated. X-Men deserves more credit though. They got tons of heroes in the same universe first.
@jayc1324: overrate tws a LITTLE bit?
I wouldn't say overrated, they're far from perfect but ideally I'd like them to be aimed specifically at a more mature audience. Considering they cater to audiences of different ages I think they do a really good job. Some are a lot better than others but atm they can't do much wrong.
DC have a long way to go to catch up to the quality, Nolan's Batman were very good but Ledgers Joker was easily the stand out part of them. MoS had good action but had a lot of flaws. Suicide Squad will be absolutely dogsh*te.
A little bit.
@mrhamwallet: what makes you think suicide squad would be poor?
