It's as acceptable as hitting anyone else, so not very.

I think the ideal thing to do would be to only use the least amount of force necessary, and that should be viewed in the context of how physical your 'opponent' is. If Mother Russia is about to break your neck, then sure you can hit her. But if a slight woman, or indeed a man, or an elderly person or a child attacks you then no, it's not necessary (usually) to beat then in a conventional sense.

The only time you should hit a Woman is if you feel threatened that she could put your life in danger.

Outside of that, it's not cool. I won't be upset with you if I see you hit a Woman that hits you first because I believe everyone has a right to defend themselves, but you still look weak.

- in self-defense/defense of property/defense of country/law enforcement (which are justifiable within certain considerations),

- assault (which can be considered as a crime/illegal though with some consideration to your mental/emotional stability)

- based on some mutual agreement in which you legally forfeit/waive some of your rights (eg: combat sports , duel, etc)

For mental health/psychological consideration, justifying violence against a person would be base on your moral, ethical, cultural, religious inclinations and on how you will manage the guilt (or the lack of it) that will develop afterwards.

Edit: I didn't read the OP, no. If someone hits you then yes you should be able to hit them. Although even then it should be only if a woman punches you excessively.

I am against any sort of violence against women. But in a situation like this, I don't see why I shouldn't hit back.

Depends on how she insults me. If it is just me alone then I can take it, if it involes my family then she better be ready to turn into a corpse after I am done with her

Granted, I couldn't do that anyway. I've had girls get physically violent. They usually feel horrible a few seconds after it, or when I grab them; letting them know when to calm down.
