@utotheg38: so before you made this thread, did you think that Hiphop was the biggest in terms of sales? Or did you mean biggest as in most influential? In terms of sales I think hip hop is top 5. but in terms of influence top 2 for sure.

Influence, I've seen people In japan break dancing and listening to rakims "Dont sweat the technique"

Unfortunately, yes it is at this current time.

But if you're talking about Music in general in terms of X amount of records sold and X amount of fans throughout time, I would have to say 60's-80's soft/glam/hard/ rock and metal.

PS The definition of POP is popular. Drake, Little Wayne, Nas.... = POP

Hip Hop isn't a genre in music. Hip Hop is a whole culture in which Rap is just a fracking part of it.

I'm sure he meant it in an offensive way.. Saying 'Hey, it's that black guy' is different. How many times do you hear people say 'Hey that straight guy is talking to me?' And even if he is homosexual, why refer to him as being a homosexual and not just quote him and say if you are speaking to him or not? Why not say 'TheThe thinks I'm talking about him'

He's on a ipad so he can't or doesn't know how. (We've talked about that before, So I now).

Fair Enough, If you think It was derogatory then It Is. But I see nothing wrong with It.

Hip Hop as many others already stated just isn't in the same league as other music with overall popularity. Rock, pop, dance etc probably even Country(while I don't like that either) is overall more popular then Hip Hop is.

One of my best friends is a HUGE hip hop and rap guy, even he's always telling me it was far better in the 90's then it is now. Known him for over 10 years, he buys every big hiphop or rap album.

Now, personal taste wise I think everyone likes something different but on a world level scale it's no where near.

You're telling me you know for a fact that:

A) "TheThe" is openly gay.

B) And more importantly, "TheThe" doesn't mind being referred to as "that gay guy" and in fact prefers it?

If you can say yes without any question to both, then sure, it's not offensive. But otherwise, I think it was clearly meant as an insult.

But that is a different subject, i think. The fact that rock instruments originate in Africa doesnt mean they are used for rock music in Africa. A same instrument can serve different types of music. For example, HipHop beatmakers, Rock stars, Country singers and pop performers, all of them use guitars. A instrument used in rock music in USA can be used for a different purpose in Africa. The instrument alone doesnt give us the popularity nore the genre is coming from.

Yes it is. Theres this dope punk-griot/folk-thrash band from South Africa, or Nigeria, or Uganda. IDRR

I have already answered to that. Please read my answer to mrtrickster. It's on the 2nd page of this thread. Technally, there are rock groups in Africa, but a very, very small amount. It's really marginal, just like world music groups are in USA. Since i assume the thread was about popularity/influence/scale of each musical genre,"no rock bands in Africa" means this genre is so marginal it's like it doensnt exist in front of other genres in Africa.

@k4tzm4n

I'm gay. I didnt come out the "closet" like somebody said, because there is no closet for me : i wasnt in one. Some people assumed i was because the stuff i wrote. For example, if i think a male celebrity/character is hot, i'll say he is hot. There's no difference with the straight viners who say all the time this kind of things(like Power girl or Anne Hathaway being hot). Those viners are not in a "closet", nore am i. I'm just giving statement, my opinion.

Now, talking about ,his intent was clear, he wanted to be offensive to me. "That gay guy" is a derogatory way to talk, and he knows it. Biteme-Fanboy and the Mod have already given all the reasons why, so i wont repeat what they said, except every viner has a nickname, so use it.

I said at first "fuck yourself" because your first sentence was " Fuck that nigga blah blah". You were already the one disrespecting debaters for no reason, i though you were talking about me because in this thread i was the one who talked the most about Africa. You really wanna know why I edited 3 or 4mn after posting my first response ?

Because i didnt want to give you the pleasure to think you made me "mad" with your "fuck that nigga" sentence. But it wasnt me,so i'm fine. Regardless of that, you still dont have a point because your excuse is invalid : your first post was already disrespecting people. Maybe you didnt insult me, but you have insulted someone else after all. Your rudeness was uncessary, no matter what excuse you'll try to defend yourself, because you knew that the post wast edited only 3 or 4minutes later, which is often an indication that people dont wanna fight without being sure. But despite that, you still prefer to provoke me with the "that gay guy". You're not a child, you know exactly what you do.

For the rest of your so-called "bad ass" attitude, maybe you think that you're in a tv show ? It's so ridiculous that is pretty funny. Do what you want to do, it's not important to me, since i dont need your respect to enjoy the vine. I didnt notice your existence before your post, so i dont really care if you dont respect me or not. In fact you'll be the one who will waste time bitching about someone who wont give a shit about you or what you think about him.So dear friend, go ahead, LOL...

1) You responding with "Fuck yourself" at first obviously means you were mad. Editing your post means you realized maybe you f*cked up, no?

2) I was disrespecting someone who was stereotyping Africa. You gonna stand up for that person now? SMH ...

3) You're so-called "intellectual attitude"? maybe you should stop trying since you didn't even have the sense to understand who I was talking to and especially since now you over there defending them.

No. Rock bands are not in Africa.

Many rock instruments originate in Africa.

@k4tzm4n

The only thing clear here is the fact that you a Flodge, lol.

First you tell me to f*ck myself then edit your sh!t later? That's straight up Flodge ...

Maybe you should have asked who I was speaking to before you started popping off at the mouth, huh?

1)I said: i didnt want to give you the pleasure to think that you made me mad. Being irritated and letting someone knowing that are 2 different things.

2) If the person was stereotyping Africa, i can understand your desire to disrespect, but it doesnt mean it is the best way to answer, especially when the person was stereotyping without being rude. Stereotypic statements are sometimes a lack of knowledge. According to me, the better way to make people understand your ideas is to be calm, as much as needed. And i say this, while i'm often myself a snappy guy. But at least i'm tryin.

3)I'm not tryin to be "intellectual", for the simple reason that i'm not one, and i dont write like one. Misunderstanding can happen to everyone, and maybe you should also try to be a little more clear when you write, unstead of writing monosyllabic sentences which can be aimed to anybody.

Anyway, peace on the planet, forget past quarrels, Jesus takes the wheel etc. Everything is explain, now the viners are happy.
