Is chess a sport?

Chess is as much a sport as any Tournament worthy game could be. (Or rather, anything in competitive nature)

This is like that stupid argument that people try to make that video games are a sport. Chess is a mental game, but it isn't a sport.

Sports involve some sort of physical exertion(running, mostly), most have offensive vs. defensive match ups(Golf isn't either) and have to require some athleticism.

Chess and Video games are not sports, they're games. One of them even has the term GAME in it.

It is knows as a sport because it exercises your brain....so do books, ARE BOOKS SPORTS!

I even joined chess competition several times when i was child. It's definitely sport

Not a sport in the sense of athletic competition, but a competitive game non the less.

As much of a sport that poker is. In my eyes, not every competition is a sport. I don't consider video games a sport. Depends on your definition of sport.
