I think my friend is racist

NOw this may be crazy because I am Mexican and we get along just fine (although recently he's become more insulting), but let me tell you the full story. This all started back when Will Smith got cast as Deadshot. Most of use were okay with it but my friend was really angry about it. We all thought he was joking around but after a few hours of his ranting I thought other wise. He would say the most hostile things about Will Smith (rather not say what they were exactly). It's not uncommon for us to say non PC things, but he sounded really mad while saying them. He also sounded really annoyed when he heard about the Jimmy Olsen casting. I think the only reason he didn't blow is cus we all told him too cool it when he was ranting about Will Smith. He also recently said he got a tatoo but he won't show me what it is and just told me it was a windmill.

What do you guys think? Is my friend racist?

He's always said racist jokes about me being Mexican but that's normal among us. Now he's saying them more and more. Getting really angry has never happened.

Everyones racist, it's just a matter on how much they show how much they hate other cultures or skins because of stereotyping or personal experiences.

He's also pretty mad about N!guh Human Torch.

And I'm not sure why a person would cease to be friends with someone just because they have a certain.....viewpoint. Hell, one of my friends is sexist and the other hates religious people......

Well, Will Smith is poorly cast for something like Suicide Squad. Doesn't seem like he has the acting chops to pull off a character like Deadshot when you had Tom Hardy right there who would have done wonders with the character.

No, I think he is a Deadshot fan and just want the character to be represented by someone who he think could do a better job.

I don't know why you've decided Tom Hardy has more range than Will Smith, or why you'd need to be Daniel f***ing Day-Lewis to play a competent Floyd Lawton (Deadshot doesn't have as much depth to his character as you seem to think he does). They'd both do absolutely fine.

If you'd prefer not to be exposed to your friend's racist rants, tell him it bothers you and ask him to tone it down around you. If he's your friend, he'll do it. However, if you can't abide that way of thinking, no matter how close you are to the adherent, maybe you should reconsider what you want out of a friend. Check out some of the exchange and equity theories of social interaction--Just google ' em. If you're afraid to say anything because of how he will judge you... whatevs. Good luck.

Ranting about character race change doesn't make someone racist. It would have to be more than that.

Unless he was saying "n*gger this, and n*gger that" or something along those lines, ranting over a race swap casting decision isn't racist. A little tired and narrow-minded? Yeah, but not racist.

Everything doesn't have to be exactly like the comics. There can be certain changes and they're not that bad. Look at the Flash show, Joe and Iris West are well-played by black actors. Same thing can go for Johnny Storm and Deadshot.
