It's ridiculous. I'm buying bananas at the grocery store and I get asked if I work there. I'm not even flying the colors.

How should I respond? Bonus points for most clever comeback.

Happened to me at BestBuy before, because I was wearing a blue sweater.

I usually just try to help the person anyway.

"I don't work here, but I think that is in aisle 4"

@razzatazz: Oh, I have no problem giving advice on Skylanders or pointing people in the direction of the PSN cards. But being badgered about working at K Mart or FYE or Hannaford is getting annoying.

Maybe they know you don't work there and are bad at starting conversations so that's their excuse to talk to you :)

That is strange. Maybe there's someone who works at that store who looks like you. People used to come into my girlfriend's store all the time and say "Oh you work here too". There was a girl who worked at a restaurant across town who looked similar.

Some weird chick at Walmart asked me I knew how to tell if a pineapple was good or not. I'm already extremely awkward, so whenever a stranger talks to me, I get even more awkward. As for what to say to the people who keep bugging you, just tell them, "No, I'm a stripper." That'll get 'em to quit buggin' you.

@ryagan: Pineapples are hard to tell unless there is a part that is evidently wrong about the fruit.

@razzatazz: Apparently, one of the best ways to tell if a pineapple is good is to smell it. I guess good ones are supposed to smell sweeter or something.

Personally, I pull out my katana and decapitate them. But you know, that's just my experience.

That only happens to me at Hot Topic, FYE, and Gamestop. I usually help them by saying,

"If you had some glasses then maybe you could see that it is on aisle 4 and you would be able to see that I don't work here. I'm not even wearing the uniform or the badge." (+)

That's the American stereotype about Asians and it goes a long way in the important areas, such as employment, especially from the prospective of African Americans who suffer the opposite stereotypes. I'm thinking, they're just trying to irritate you, since they're probably really assuming that you're a computer engineer.

"No, but I could definetly show you where the best banana is at."

Reply, sure and the best banana is off the shelf. Then whip it out, and slap 'em with it. Then ask if they see things clearly now. Rinse and repeat until the desired outcome is reached.

If it's a guy just say, "That's the worst pickup line I have heard all day!"
