I just failed textbroker's 10-question proofreading test.

Now I can't take it again for three months.

I got 40% of the answers correct.

Edit: Apparently according to this it isn't exactly what you might call 'possible'. Hmm. Further plans pending.

Sorry?

What's the text broker test?

#5 Posted by oceanmaster21 (7724 posts) - - Show Bio

sorry that happen to you

#6 Posted by nerdork (4035 posts) - - Show Bio

Im sorry. But, you'll get another shot. That does stink, though. I know that kind of disappointment.

#7 Posted by Jokergeist (4935 posts) - - Show Bio

Damn this is unfortunate.

#8 Posted by Joygirl (18441 posts) - - Show Bio

@nerdork: In three months.

It's also vital to becoming a 5-star writer (I am 4-star) which gives a dramatic pay increase.

I'm not sure I can physically survive this level of personal shame.

Textbroker.com is the company I now work for. Their proofreading test is, apparently, the most difficult thing a human can hope to attempt, next to genocide.

There are ten questions with multiple options. Some sentences have multiple correct possibilities, others do not.

You have to get nine out of ten questions correct -- which means getting every single option correct.

#10 Posted by Extremis (3334 posts) - - Show Bio

@joygirl: oh word, what do you do for the company?

#11 Posted by BumpyBoo (7638 posts) - - Show Bio

Well you haven't failed me, for what it's worth. The only way to fail is to give up, and I know you would never do that. This is an unfortunate setback, but I know you will get right back out there, cos that is just how our Joy rolls <3

#12 Posted by Joygirl (18441 posts) - - Show Bio

@extremis: I just started. My job is writing articles for hire.

#13 Posted by Dernman (14712 posts) - - Show Bio

Better luck next time.

<3 But this "unfortunate setback" will keep me at 1.5 cents per word (as opposed to 5) for another three months. Provided I can actually ever complete the test.

Im sure they cheated somehow, next time you'll breeze through it!

#16 Posted by BumpyBoo (7638 posts) - - Show Bio

@joygirl: Oh, I didn't mean it like that, I wasn't belittling how big a deal this is or how much it means to you :) But I believe in you, you are super smart and you can do this.

#17 Posted by Marionettegeist (1912 posts) - - Show Bio

Well that sucks. You'll probably pass it next time though. Is it the same questions every time or different?

#18 Posted by nerdork (4035 posts) - - Show Bio

@joygirl: I'm sorry if it sounded as if I was trivializing your predicament. But, I do know the feeling. I failed an entrance exam to get into Notre Dame's Criminal Psycology Dept. You want to talk about being crushed...

That being said, i have faith that you will redeem yourself. I've read some of your work. You'll get it done.

@joygirl: awesome. Well hit it hard and beat that test next time. Do us proud

I'm not sure. They didn't even LOOK that hard, I thought I'd at least get the 9/10... I got 4.

I'll probably cheat actually.

Because I know for a fact that I got all of those answers right.

sorry to hear that, good luck next time.

#25 Posted by Marionettegeist (1912 posts) - - Show Bio

@joygirl: Cheating is never the right answer... unless you know you won't get caught.

#26 Posted by Joygirl (18441 posts) - - Show Bio

@dctv3363: The only way they could know I was cheating is if it's literally not possible to get the answers correct, which seems likely. I just read a couple articles about it -- apparently the test is NOT actually 100% vital to a 5-ranking, and it's also not really something anyone can do successfully.

@joyguy: Wait a minute, who the f*** are you?

#28 Edited by GraniteSoldier (6918 posts) - - Show Bio

@joygirl: For what its worth you may consider this a failure but at least this "failure" won't end in you or someone else getting killed. Silver lining: found.

#29 Posted by joyguy (89 posts) - - Show Bio

um hey im mark im new

#30 Posted by Joygirl (18441 posts) - - Show Bio

@granitesoldier: Yup. It's not the end of the world.

It just really really sucks.

Mhm. Sure you are.

@dernman said:

Well.

  1. Everyone who looks up to me as a grammatical genius (this is actually several people)
  2. Myself
  3. My family who is currently supporting me while I try to get steady work

Eh that counts as "everyone".

@joygirl: Its a setback to be sure. Setbacks are only failures when you quit. I don't sense quit. Just press on. You'll get it.

No actually. Check the article I posted above. There have been people who spent their three months studying textbroker policy and scored lower than they did before.

@joygirl Chin up kid. Train up and soon you'll get it. Being good at something isn't the path to success. Keeping at it, is.

#41 Posted by Dernman (14712 posts) - - Show Bio

@joygirl: Oh ..... I think they'll understand. Sometime we don't always hit it every time. Only way you can truly fail them is if you fail to pick yourself up.

#42 Posted by GraniteSoldier (6918 posts) - - Show Bio

@joygirl: Hm, so what's the point of a test that seems impossible for all intents and purposes? Or perhaps I'm not understanding something about this test? But it seems it's a common theme so why make this test in the first place?

Life has been teaching me that. I've been a poor student so far.

I've been asking myself all these same questions.

Maybe they secretly read your answers and then give you a low score just to discourage you, to see if you'll leave immediately.

I have no idea.

@dctv3363: But is that a good thing or a bad thing? Maybe they're looking for a sort of Captain Kirk-ish panache.

Bad I guess? I'm honestly not sure.
