I have an idea to stop the spam

Ok so how bout we put a thing so that new users can't make threads. They'ed have to have to have at least 15 post before they can make there first thread. They can still post but no threads. This would really help on with spam bots, i mean think about it. No more spam bots. I can really see any thing bad about it except it would probably make the new guys mad but most of them make bad first threads any way ( i did ) so this would help them get used to the board before making a thread

I've been saying this for a long time.

Doubt it'll get changed, considering the staff seems firm on defending the useless post count, but a topic limit would be a far superior counter-measure to spam.

True. The Mods are doing the best they can. And also I think that our behavior to new recruits needs to change. Rather than abuse them and fill the threads with IBLs, we should tell were they have gone wrong, cause often its genuine mistakes (Kratos threads- new people, including me in the past overrate the character so much its not funny).

and what about just add a captcha to the new users or close the registration for a while <--- this is unfair but is the best

This is true, too. I say that as someone who was / is harsh on newbies. I try to be helpful when I can be. It's the... rather aggressively over zealous ones that I have little tolerance for.

Closing registration for a couple of days would be a good idea.

For the latter: agreed.

Former: I'm working on it, I'm working on it... old habits die hard...

@Mercy_: I myself was guilty of this in the past to be truthful. But it really doesn't achieve anything. Its often people just trying to display cynicism and sarcasm as a substitute for wisdom and knowledge- or just trying to get a laugh. And I've found that there is no positive correlation between people who do this and their debating skills as well.

This would seem to hurt RPG'ers a lot, plus let's not act as if veteran members are immune to making useless or awful threads.

A lot of RPGers are more bothered by the post restriction than thread restrictions.

And, yes, vets make some bad threads. We just make less bad threads (that said, as a "vet," I don't make very many threads as it is. It's rare, aside from my review blogs). It's not about that; it's about limiting spamming. Topic restrictions would help a great deal.

I can't say for sure either way, I've never asked them butt from what I have seen there are a lot of accounts with very few posts to create thread ideas, I guess RPG's. You're knowledgeable regarding this site so I'll take your word for it.

Maybe in certain forums then, but a lot of new members might need assistance and the mods already have enough on their plate without having to answer multiple PM's. I'm not completely against the idea of a minimum post count before being able to post but where does it end? The spammers will find a way around that and do we continuously raise the lowest amount needed. It looks like some believe spammers are a bigger concern than welcoming newer members.

Having new users is all fine and dandy, but if the boards are such a mess that they can't post and the older users outright leave, then it's pointless. Solve the spamming first.

I sent Babs a link to some threads where me and other users expressed our views on how to improve this site, a lot of these ideas were included.
