How much money would it cost to create your own country?

Serious question, I've seen whole islands for sale for only 500 dollar. But what would happen then?
Say, I buy that island and want to make it a real monarchy, how would that go?

I have no clue about this kind of stuff.

Why in the world would you want to.

You'd need to find a reason to make the nation who truly owns that island to give it up. Which is next to impossible. Why? Because land is power and nobody freely gives up power. The way I see it, the only way you could legitimately convince a nation to give up it's land would be:

1. An absurd amount of money. Money that would be better spent purchasing land and living like a king as a member/guest of the host nation.
2. Force. Might is right, so taking it through violence or implied violence.
3. Have some sort of claim to land and try to use public opinion to sway the nation. Next to impossible but still better than 0% chance.

And assuming you had the means to become a nation and maintain a nation, you'd probably just be invaded (invasion being a small squad of mercenaries who helicopter in and kill you), dispose of ya and then annex the island back into the original country or near by country.

well you could just live on an island where nobody lives and nobody cares about, soooo 0$

of course you would need to build a house and have a source of food(but if you only want to buy a land, so you could say i have my own country! then theres no way)

Though I would imagine if you have enough money/political support you could hire enough guards yourself to avoid the latter scenario. But if enough money is involved, I'm pretty sure the the amount of guards doesn't matter.

Cheaper to hire a private army and conquer one.

A guy from Virginia did it last month to make his daughter a princess... and it only cost him airfare/camelfare, a few bucks at a craft store to make a flag and a few more bucks for custom stationary. He claimed 800 square acres that no other country had claimed for themselves, link.

Depends on the countries I think. It wouldn't cost that much to combine like...Yemen and Oman. But if you would want to make Europe 1 country, that would cost you.
