How does religion start wars?

I wouldn't say that it starts wars but different ways of thinking can result is conflict and there will be the few that take it too far.

High ranking religious officials often use their status an interpretation of their text to rally their followers to war under the guise of piety. It's mostly used for land grabs and to expend the religion.

It doesn't really, crazy people who don't understand their religion use it to start wars by trying to force their ways on others.

Seriously, we already have 3 threads about this.

I'm pretty sure the several Popes that called for crusades understood their religions quite well.

@thatguywithheadphones: Perhaps, but they obviously didn't understand something well enough, since they decided to start a war over it.
