How do you respond to insults?

Eh I usually just remove their head from their shoulders. Nothing that extreme really.....

If it's my mate i'll laugh and shrug it off.

If it is some random i'll insult them all day.

I would answer "I'm not going to insult you back because two wrongs don't make a right, just look at your parents".

All that matters is how you see yourself.

Based on what you've shared, there might be some underlying jealousy on the part of your friend. Insults "hidden" by jokes are insults, period. Unless it plays into a situation or he's poking fun at your vanity, it deserves a response just like any other insult. A simple "f_ck off" should do the trick nicely.

I usually don't give them any importance. I simply say "whatever" then leave and continue on with my life.

If it's just friendly insults between friends, I jokingly insult back. I have a few male and female friends who I typically exchange sarcastic / friendly-intended "insults" with, but we don't go too far or too personal.

If it's a legitimate insult, I smile and make the person look and feel worse and worse by not directly engaging. No, this isn't "taking the high road." I play the long campaign here. Mind games... best vengeance.

@rouflex: Thing is they don't have to be impressive, they have to make you tremble in fear. If you are able to bring a intense feeling of tension in the air around you, making everyones hair stand on their backs, while peircing your targets soul with just your eyes, then you are doing something right.

It also helps if you say nothing, and walk away.

If it's just my friends playing around I will come up with an insult to them, or say something else funny.

If it's someone actually trying to hurt me I usually ignore them.
