My brother and step dad's Birthday was yesterday but today we had a family barbeque since my brother Andrew was off from work. Step dad served in the navy though he never really talks about it for some reason.

It's to honor those who served in the military service I believe.~ I'm in the states so it's celebrated here but usually my family doesn't.

@samimista: oh... cool. and it's like a full fledged holiday? people skip work and everyhing? what do you usually do in that day? (traditionally)

#18 Edited by Samimista (20597 posts) - - Show Bio

@jorgevy: My step dad was in the navy but he doesn't really talk about it so the farthest we go to celebrating is the barbeque. I believe there is usually town parades for people who do get into the holiday though.

I know schools are usually closed on Memorial Day since it's a Federal holiday but think some people still have to work if they're not federal workers? Could be wrong on the last part.

@samimista: wow how interesting... seems super american ahahah and it really shows how to heart the americans take their soldiers and members of the military and how they consider them important :D seems like a great day

#20 Posted by Samimista (20597 posts) - - Show Bio

@jorgevy: =D It really is. Always nice to show respect for the soldiers. ^__^ I'll have to ask my dad when he served and etc. My teacher's son is in the ROTC program (it's basically for teens and young adults to prep up for the military life style and to see a glimpse of what it's like) and I think he'll be apart of a military parade in town tomorrow. Gonna have to recheck on that.

@samimista: those are interesting programs, sometimes some people just jump into military life blindly and I think those are nice ideas. and parades are always awesome

#22 Edited by Samimista (20597 posts) - - Show Bio

@jorgevy: I agree I like how those programs show someone what the military life is like before they jump in without knowing anything. Haven't been to one of the parades though. =O We might tomorrow since the parade should be local. ^_^
