Sometimes I see things so ridiculous that I just have to post them...

==================

"SCOTTSDALE, AZ - A Valley grandfather says he was booted out of the children's section of a Scottsdale Barnes & Noble simply because he's a man.

Omar Amin, 73, is a Valley doctor and was shopping for his two grandchildren at the store off of Loop 101 and Shea Boulevard in Scottsdale.

Amin said he was approached by an employee who told him that men weren't allowed to be in the children's book section by themselves.

He said he was shopping for books for his two grandchildren who live in Wisconsin, when he received a phone call.

That call was interrupted by a store manager who told him he had to leave the store.

While the two were talking, Amin received a phone call from Barnes & Noble's corporate office.

The company apologized to Amin and said the employee would be reprimanded.

Amin told ABC15's Tim Vetscher that he wants a public apology from the employee with the cameras rolling."

====================

This is just totally nuts. What if the role were reversed and a woman had gotten kicked out for the reason that women weren't aloud alone in the kid's section? Should we boot women out of tool shops because they could possibly be there just trying to pick up guys? Yeah I realize that this rule was probably to keep away potential child molesters, but when you boot someone out who's not near any child and is just a guy picking up books for his grandchildren the rule should be changed.

I mean the guy wasn't even a threat and he was just on his phone. And if they had a "no men in the kids section" policy, why wasn't there a big sign posted that was indicative of that rule? And if the store was so worried that the children's book section was a hot spot for child predators, why not assign a female who observes the situation to see if there is anything out of the ordinary about the guy? Then if she does she could get the store manager's attention about it. But this employee just walked up to the guy and kicked him out like that. I think that's a violation of rights, tbh.

I won't be shopping at Barnes & Noble anymore. Borders was always better to me anyway.

I mean, I kind of understand why, in a way. But that doesn't make it any less stupid.

I guess this particular branch assumed that all men have a pedophile gene that triggers their child predator instincts when they go near kid books.

Why wouldnt the clerk just keep an eye on him to see if he was trying to pick up children instead of just jumping to conclusions?

@Ohgawd: I'd assume that's the case. I've been to local Barnes & Noble stores.. and I haven't run into anything remotely like that.

Reminds me of the story of the father who was arrested for being mistaken as a pedophile for taking a picture of his own son.

I strongly agree with both these statements, and also books really are just like slow and boring T.V. anyhow.

It was a printing of the novel that came out around the time the remake of the movie did.
