Lost could've been the best ever. I was completely obsessed with the show during it's run, but once they screwed up the ending so badly, it lost so much of it's shine.

For me, the answer is BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER!!!. It had a bad sixth season, but I thought it bounced back nicely in the seventh and has kept its spot as my favorite show ever.
