I always picked the Water Pokemon as a starter, no matter which game I was playing.
Grass, Fire, Water which starters do you like best?!
- I like the Charmander evolution chain a lot. That said, Venusaur was like the only decent Grass-Type in Generation I so it's a tactical move to chose Bulbasaur.
- Feraligatr is an absolute boss, so in Generation II I picked Totodile.
- I'm largely indifferent about Generation III starters. Currently I like Swampert the most, but I previously really liked Sceptile and I've had a Blazekin too.
- It can only really be Torterra for Generation IV.
- I haven't played Black/White yet, but if I do, I'll definitely pick the Oshawott. Samurott looks like on of the only Pokemon I'd like from Generation V.
In summary, I have favourite Pokemon, not favourite Pokemon starter types.
I think they are all great! Love water types for sure, Totodile was my go to for the second generation too!!!
However, fire was a good choice because I felt like there was hardly any! And there would always be a crap ton for Grass and Water types.
Hm...
- Bulbasaur
- Cyndaquil
- Mudkip
- Turtwig
- Tepig
So I guess you can say my favorites are either Grass or Fire. My absolute favorite starter, however, was Mudkip. So, I guess I can't have a favorite type, lol.

This.
However, some of the Fire starters are pretty damn cool.
Grass pales. It's weak.

Never mind the oxymoron. LOL.
hah!

I almost always went with water, mostly because your rival would then choose a grass pokemon.. which had no special advantages over the water one.
Grass is super-effective against water. But water Pokemon can learn ice moves, making them super-effective against grass types.
In terms of my favourite starters:
- Charmander.
- Totodile.
- Squirtle.
- Bulbasaur (Not my favourite, but a tactical decision for Generation I. No other grass type compares to Venusaur, but a fire type like Arcanine can replace Charizard).
- Mudkip.
- Turtwing.
I have no strong feelings about the other starter Pokemon.
The two on the bottom. Make me lol.

^ This is surprisingly similar to what I feel like. I liked Charmander the most, but many of the times ended up picking Bulbasaur. I picked Totodile because he was a boss and I really never cared much about the GIII starters.

Charizard can be replaced by a fire-type Pokemon such as Arcanine that's actually stronger too.

Weird, I don't remember it. But then again, kid me didn't pay much attention to it. Still, more often than not I liked the evolution chains for most of the water starters.
I'm a firestarter, twisted firestarter
You're the firestarter, twisted firestarter
I'm a firestarter, twisted firestarter
BB
Charmander, Totodile, Treecko, Chimchar, haven't played black and white yet but if I could I'd probably choose between snivy and oshawott
I would probably rather have an Eevee, though! I'd definitely rather have a Growlithe (an access to a fire stone relatively early in the game).

Starting with an Eevee is a terrible idea. I did it before in HG/SS, and I couldn't get anything done nearly as quick as I could've with a starter, lol. ...But then again, all I used were 6 Eevee, not thinking how friggin late the stones appear in the game. So really, it was just poor planning on my part -_-

The sparcity of evolutionary stones is kind of annoying, but there's always Umbreon and Espeon!

Hell yeah! Espeon is such a boss. If it were up to me, though, I'd start with a Riolu. Lucario ftw <3

Lucrio's okay. I never really use either steel or fighting types myself.
I went through most of Diamond using a Luxray, so Shinx was effectively my Diamond starter. Just Luxray, Garchomp, and Torterra for me from Generation IV. Not a massive fan of the rest.

I'm a huge fan of fighting types. The fact that Lucario's a special-based one makes me like him even more. Yeah, Gen IV's designs weren't very good, but I like them much more than Gen III's. Staraptor, Lucario, and some of the new evolutions for prior Pokes (Glaceon, Leafeon, etc) were pretty great designs, though.

Fair enough.
I like Magmortar, Electivire, Rhyperior,Togekiss etc too but I've only ever really used Electivire and Rhyperior, and at that, not very much.
Again, I'm not a fan of many Pokemon in Generation III. I like Swampert, Flygon and Metagross.
I'll catch other Pokemon I'm not too fond of to function as a HM-able team member.
I never use legendaries.

Same. It's not that I don't want to use them, it's just the hassle of getting the special item they need and finding someone to trade with that's a pain.
Gen III's only bright creations were Swampert, Fygon (but really means nothing after Garchomp), Metagross, Manectric, and Milotic (but their availability's a pain)
I never use legendaries either. I feel like they make the game too easy.

That can be a pain. As I said, it's the same with Pokemon requiring evolutionary stones.
I was never a fan of Manectric nor Milotic. I much prefer Luxray and Jolteon to Manectric, both of which have much better stats. Miltoic just seemed like an effeminate Gyarados to me.
Only Pokemon noobs use legendaries.

Charmander because it was the closest sounding to my name xD
Heehee
Water cause it's just easier to work with HMs and all
I always favored the fire-type starters, and for every single game I had, those were the ones I would choose.
I favored original three starters equally. The second generation. Feraligator was a beast and I always choose him, although typlosion was bad asss too. Blazesiken dominated the third generation . Don't really care for the rest
I usually start with a grass since they are close to nature. I could see them being very helpful during tough situations and they are very cuddly. They are good team players. Most usually have extensive reach with their vine whip.
Water is good too because I can see them cooling you of during hot day. They can be very practical during situations and they can be very playful.
Fire for a ten year old first pokemon seems dangerous. he/she better learn fire safety lessons quick. With all the tall grass I have to ask how fire many emergencies are in every town. They also make you look pretentious and crave attention. I can be wrong most likely, but I feel like most would choose the fire type first.
Always fire.
Fav pokemon and also my team(all lvl 100):
- Charmander/Charmeleon/Charizard
- Dragonite
- Gliscor
- Mud-kip(got the joke?)/Marshtomp/Swampert
- Rayquaza
- Treecko/Grovyle/Sceptile
R.I.P.
