Ok since you didnt make any specific criteria... I thought I'd try to come up with some lesser-known movies that probably wont get mentioned here, but are well worth watching.
If you like thoughtful time travel movies, I recommend: Primer. This is an awesome movie that was made on a super low budget. It's also quite mind-bending and you probably have to watch it at least twice to figure out what the heck happened.
If you like action, I recommend Dredd. It's a really good straight up action movie, much better than the original one with Stallone.
If you like classic sci-fi (like 1950's era) then I recommend Forbidden Planet or The Day the Earth Stood Still. Both good and interesting even today. Definitely skip the remake of the latter with Keanu Reeves.
If you like comedies, I recommend Idiocracy.
And finally a couple of other recommendations...
Limitless is pretty good and has an interesting concept of a pill that allows people to basically become geniuses as long as they keep taking it, but has some severe side-effects if you stop.
Cabin in the Woods is kind of like a horror movie, but more of a meta-horror movie combined with sci-fi.
The Man From Earth
That was a pretty good movie. Seconded.
Kick-Ass, Kick-Ass 2, Chronicle, The nightmare on Elm Street series, Clockwork Orange, the Friday the 13th series, Halloween series + remakes, Texas Chainsaw massacre remake, and Evil dead remake + army of darkness
