Flame Wars(Mods, gimme a chance)

(Mods, before you shut me down, gimme a chance.)

So I recently accidentally went into flame war because somebody said "Iceman" Chuck Liddell sucked at acting. Then, after declaring flame war, I actually decided to research and find out about Flame Wars.( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flaming_(Internet) ). Then I started thinking, what is the most common type of Flamebait, where is it most common, and what's the best way to resolve it? I myself prefer Self-Deprecation.

PS can a mod change this to off-topic i think that's more appropriate?
