Female Expendables

Adi Shankar, producer of The Grey and Dredd, has set Dutch Southern to writing an Expendables-alike project for an all-female star cast.

Several actresses ‘associated with action movies’ are said to be talking about joining up, but Variety doesn’t have any particular names to share as yet.

I think it’s easy to suppose that they’ll have approached Gina Carano, Cynthia Rothrock and Pam Grier… and then maybe on to Michelle Rodriguez, Lucy Lawless, Linda Hamilton, Michelle Yeoh, Milla Jovovich, perhaps even Carrie-Anne Moss, Maggie Q, Uma Thurman, Vivica A. Fox?

I’d be very amused if they get Chloe Moretz in off the back of Hit Girl, but I don’t think for one second it’s going to happen. Zoe Bell would be nice too. Maybe Sarah Michelle Gellar?

What you guys think about it? Do you think it could work?

the male version has 3 decades worth of action stars.

a lot of the actresses u mentioned didnt star in any action roles till late 90s to now . besides this list is kinda flawed .

I don't know, are any of those actresses really action movie legends? Or are they just going for Tomboys?

@comicdude23: There might be a few others, but I don't think it'd have as much of an impact as The Expendables due to female action stars leave a different impression than their male counter-parts.

She's the only significant one. The others IMO aren't that good. Males tend to be the bigger and more memorable action stars, and are on the front line. I don't think there is any need for a female knock-off.

I can definitely see Rothrock and Yeoh (I grew up watching their movies). Sigourney Weaver, Linda Hamilton, Lucy Lawless, and Uma Thurman would be good choices. Maybe for a little young(er) blood, add Milla Jovovich, Summer Glau, Rhona Mitra, Michelle Rodriguez, Zhang Ziyi and Zoe Saldana. Maybe toss in Shannon Lee or Linda Carter for cameo spots.

We'll see but it's obviously evident that men are more memorable action stars.

I still have a hard time believing that they are actually doing this...but I guess there have been worse movies thrown out into the light.

Well maybe not a whole movie but at least a cameo as an all girl squad at Expendables 3

I'm for it if they make the plot make sense for a female expendables. I don't want it to just be women thrown together to kick ass. Have them bust up a slave trade operation and it go utterly hay wall.
