Amituofo. Slavery, Jim Crow laws and the Civil Rights Movment seems to be all we hear about during "black history month". There's something wrong with this picture ... _/\_

@Magethor: That is why Morgan Freeman is one of the coolest men alive. He truly gets it.

But if I said it I'd be labeled a racist.

@laflux: October is Brest Cancer Month(don't get me on started on that one either.)

Which means we have to watch all our American Football players run around looking stupid in Pink shoes and what not for the whole month.

Once people stop giving a damn and separating everyone and everything we won't have problems anymore.

So february is still Cakemonth.

Giving a month a name doesn't make anything anymore valuable.

That's my point, it's no different than half the holidays we celebrate. Naming a day after a person or an event that happened that day doesn't matter, it's just an excuse to have parties and not go to work. I don't always have to hear why Valentine's Day or St.Patrick's Day, or Colombus Day is pointless so why always Black History Month?

Well I think alot of those you mentioned are just as pointless.

Though those are days you mentioned an entire month is a bit much.

I don't find Black History Month pointless. It's good to remind people of the past every now and then, especially the most inspiring parts.

I'm not speaking specifically about you I just mean in general I never really hear about how any holidays are pointless but black history month gets it all the time.

If it's of no importance to you, then it's really not. It's not like people are having loud "black history month" parties in your neighborhood.

Is it bad that I always forget about "Black History Month?" and that every time I'm reminded my 1st thought is always Kanye saying

"I make black history every day I don't need a month."

Also me personally I don't wish for a "Mexican History Month." I'd rather have September 16th treated like a holiday just like "Cinco de Mayo" is treated. I don't like "Cinco de Mayo" because it aint $#!%, but a victory of a battle. It is not a independence day.

One last thing: That Morgan Freeman video nice, and good point of view.

Yeah I agree with the fact that Black History month and all other times of celebration involving certain races should be done away with. They're pointless and annoying. I'm Irish Catholic but I'm not proud to be because it's not something I accomplished. I was just born that way. Be happy to be black, white, red, yellow, or green for all I care. That's cool, but taking pride in something that isn't your doing is pretty arrogant.

@White Mage: The source/issue with racism is that people care and think about it. If they stop, it will end. It's an idyllic solution but not necessarily a simple one.

The source/issue with racism is that people genuinely dislike other people based on their skin shade, and their facial features. Prejudice and superiority comes from other races and skin shades being exalted over others.

Not talking about it won't make people stop believing that it's gross for a black man to be with a white woman, nor will it change the fact that lighter skinned people are viewed as more attractive than darker skinned people.
