F word and connotation (Americans only)

Should calling someone a faggot even constitute as an insult anymore. In today's society calling someone a faggot means they're annoying or lame. Say you're playing cod with your friend.your friend is camping.you call him a faggot.obviously you don't mean he's a homosexual,you mean he's lame for camping.the word has become a part of every vocab.it's become so desensitized that pretty soon people won't even associate it gay people.

Off topic-when is the last time you used the word gay or faggot to describe a homosexual and not someone or something stupid or lame.

My friend wore a pink jacket to a metal club and got called a Faggot just last night. I don't think the insulter was worried about him camping in a video game....

It's still a pretty offensive word to certain individuals. I'm not saying you shouldn't say it, just be aware some people may be offended by it.

As to your point, no, it is not desensitized at all.

Don't fool yourself, it's still very commonly used to insult gay people; however, I'm gay and I say it frequently../shrug

People still get pissed off when Eminem says the word for some reason so I wouldn't say people are desensitized to it. It is becoming more acceptable to use as just a generic term for a bad or annoying person but some people are still offended by it. I wouldn't use it around a gay person.

@midnightdragon18: It was his first time. And to be fair, it wasn't like, neon pink. More like, Salmon pink. I've seen worse though. A true metal head could really care less how you dress though. Following an exchange of words between my friend and the guy, most of the people were telling the guy to get stuffed.

View the words the same way as I view n!gga TBH. The only thing that seperates it from the former is that LGBTQ communuity haven't accepted it in the same way as Black's have N!gga's.

Obviously it depends on the tone,but people will still get offended even whens its used to describe annoying people.maybe i exaggerated in the op, but faggot has become a lot more desensitized in the 2010's than the 90's and 00's.

Why do you say Americans only? It's become very desensitized here in Britain/Ireland as well and has become a generic insult.

I'll admit I use it too. Not in a bad way towards gay people. Watch the Louis CK explanation on youtube, it's pretty much how I think of the word. I do watch where I say it though because people might get offended.
