Is anybody here following the Euro Cup 2012? If so, what are your favorite teams? Who will you be rooting for?

Do you think Spain will pull off a third major victory?

#2 Edited by krilling (2488 posts) - - Show Bio

I don't think that Spain will get it this time. My favorite is Russia. Them guys are very skilled.

#3 Posted by WarBlade539 (4579 posts) - - Show Bio

@krilling: Russia did a major win over Czech Republic. 4-1. Incredible.

Hey, is David Villa injured? I heard he won't be playing.

@darkazrael999: It seems like he won't play but it is unknown. I that he should do the commentator for a Spanish station during the cup. Hope he'll get back to the field.

@krilling: Yeah. Loved his performance at the last Euro Cup.

Villa and Puyol are injured so they won't play

I am following it and wow -- what the heck happened to Netherlands?

Netherlands were never good though, the world cup we got in the finales by sheer luck :p

#13 Posted by Protoon (99 posts) - - Show Bio

I can't wait for the Netherlands-Germany game... it's now desperate for the Dutch.

Being english, I'm supporting ENGLAND!!! :-)

#14 Posted by Protoon (99 posts) - - Show Bio

@Aiden Cross: The Netherlands were surely unlucky against Denmark? You dominated possession and had way more chances. The pundits on TV said you definitely didn't deserve to lose.

#15 Posted by Aiden Cross (15569 posts) - - Show Bio

@Protoon: I don't think so. Holland usually has more possession of the ball, but that's just because we keep it passing around in the back. Not doing much with it. And Denmark might have had a lot less chances, but they made them count. In this match even though Holland had more chances, Denmark was better because Holland didn't utilize their chances (which they had at least 50 chances to score...)

#16 Posted by Protoon (99 posts) - - Show Bio

@lykopis: They have 3 points though! The Netherlands-Denmark result made the Group of Death even more exciting, since for now it's turned a 3-horse race into a 4-horse race.

#17 Posted by Nighthunter (28582 posts) - - Show Bio

I support Spain and Germany and think that alongside the Netherlands they are the strongest team this year.

That being said I think that Portugal did deserve to win or at least a draw. They played better and had only bad luck against them.

On the other hand the Netherlands-Denmark result reminds me what's beautiful about this sport. One play can define a game and there's no weak team.

#18 Posted by Nighthunter (28582 posts) - - Show Bio

Of course its gonna be spain.

Though I'm still mad that Torres was called to the euro instead of Soldado

I wonder about this, too. They have a very good team, were always a serious rival in the cups.

EURO CUP 2012! Represent the best sport in the world.

Personally I don't care who wins, I just want to see some spectacular football played! I think it's anyone's game this year.

Same here, Soldado had a way better season than Torres did.

Anyway go Denmark!!!

LOL. The Netherlands lost

#23 Posted by WarBlade539 (4579 posts) - - Show Bio

@Nighthunter: Yeah. That shot by Pepe, if it would have bounced the other way, it would have become a goal. And without Villa, Spain will have a tough time against Italy.

#24 Posted by WarBlade539 (4579 posts) - - Show Bio

@krilling: Not much time left now for the match. I am supporting Spain. What about you?

#25 Posted by krilling (2488 posts) - - Show Bio
@darkazrael999: Spain has definitely my sympathy. They must come forth. They're some German fans I know and they hate Spain (for getting a$§ kicked at the EC) and I love seeing these guys getting unhappy because them god damn "spanacken" do it again:)..
I also hope that Ireland wins. I grant them every win.

How about Spain v Italy!! What a great game!!! Amazing!!!

#27 Posted by spartan92 (2520 posts) - - Show Bio

I think germany mite take it.

Also the refs have been terrible.

#28 Posted by Nighthunter (28582 posts) - - Show Bio

Hate to be right. Soldado, Negredo or Llorente would have scored the chances that Torres had. Heck they would have passed the ball to Xavi to make the second score instead of trying a volley.

None of the Spanish forwards really have a good resume for playing the possession Tiki-Taka style needed for Spain to play. Llorente is probably their best option as he's quick and can hold up play well, he's also a good finisher.

Actually Torres is a good option for that game, assuming of course he still has someone else to finish the balls he gives. Same goes for Mata and Pedro. Spain has to play with either two strikers or one striker whose specialty is to finish the ball. Heck I would play with two finishers for the simple fact that the rest of the team already takes care of the tiki-taka building.

My Spain formation:

Casillas (Duh)
Arbeloa, Pique, Sergio Ramos, Jordi Alba
Xabi Alonso, Xavi, Iniesta and Fabregas
Soldado and Llorente

Silva, Navas and Mata as the usual replacements, Torres watching the game from London

@spartan92:Tight, exciting game. I think a draw was a fair result. Good stuff from England. :-)

I'd go with one striker to finish the ball (Llorente), Spain had a very good midfield but no one to finish the chances or take risks going forward. Having a centre forward might inspire risks up top or cuts from the wingers. I'd try to leave Silva in the first team though, i think he's earned a spot.

Match postponed due to Thunderstorm. :P

Back on now. I've a fan of Shevchenko for years before he went to Chelsea. Then my attention went to Barcelona player, you may have heard of him before, he's not that well known. His name is Messi who had just scored an amazing goal against Gatafe. :P

I said to friends last night that the Spain - Ireland game would be 5-0. I was close. Before the game he said it would be tight.

Just hope England can pull something off against the Swedes.

They were probably the ones saying crap Carroll before the game. Shut them up twice.

Watching the game was like watching Liverpool. That's why I can handle the pressure.

@Supreme Marvel: It was the most entertaining match so far, welbeck's goal was jaw dropping.

I agree that's why I go with two. Soldado and Llorente would destroy the defensive lines with the support of those two. Heck am I the only one that thinks this should have been Raul's last tournament with the red fury? 35 years old and he still scores more than most of the spanish strikers.

I agree with Silva, especially after watching the game after Ireland. The problem that Del Bosque has is that he has too many great players and only a starting eleven and three changes. Mata, Navas, Fabregas, Silva, Martinez, etc. Alll would be starting eleven players on almost any team.

Then again I think any manager would prefer to have Del Bosque's problem
#47 Posted by Supreme Marvel (11264 posts) - - Show Bio

Spanish team for me.

Cassilas

(CB)Pique (CB)Albiol

(RWB)Ramos (LWB)Alba

(DM)Bushquest

(CM) Xavi (CM) Xabi Alonso

(RIW)Silva (LIW)Iniesta

(Trequartista)Fabregas

No striker. It's so strange because I play without a striker on my football manager games. Until I took a Messi to the knee. I can't help but play him as a trequartistaup front.

#48 Posted by Nighthunter (28582 posts) - - Show Bio

Spain needs at least one striker on the first  team because otherwise they'll only play pinball and not score

#49 Posted by Supreme Marvel (11264 posts) - - Show Bio

They don't need to. I really believe when they get used to it like Barca do, they'll score.

#50 Posted by Nighthunter (28582 posts) - - Show Bio

Barca also have Sanchez, Villa, Messi, Pedro and Afellay to do the work and at least two of them are always on the starting eleven.

Also maybe if they tried to score more often they could have won the league, or at least get close to doing it :p
