Right from the first episode of Gene Roddenberry's 1966 TV series, the "Star Trek" franchise has been devoted to the idea of hope for a better future through faith in humanity. And according to Cinema Blend, J.J. Abrams has taken that message seriously, as the director of the rebooted franchise has granted one fan his dying wish: To see highly anticipated sequel "Star Trek Into Darknes

Faith rewarded.

It's stories like this that should take precedence in the media, good to have a little bit of faith in humanity restored.

For JJ Abrams yes, the guy stole Star Wars and dont even cared to pay 5 cents to Geroge Lucas.

This fan will never find out, he was watching The Empire Strickesback.

He could have chosen to watch Man of Steel. What a shame...what a shame.

But very cool nonetheless!

I will watch all his movies now, just for being such an awesome human being for other people. And don't forget about the other people who heard about this man and his dying wish and contacted the movie studio :)

Were there some ulterior motives? Maybe there were, yeah. But in the end, does this really matter at all? They made a man happy and that is all that should matter here.

While I ultimately agree that whoever arranged this definitely did it because this would be a great PR move,

anyone who wouldn't let a dying fan catch something that'll come out after their date with maggots is kind of a scumbag.

Who cares why they did it? The point is someone did something really nice for someone who needed something good. Whether it was a PR stint or not makes no difference

@DeathpooltheT1000: If Abrahms did rip off Lucas then we can consider it payback for those damn prequels and pointless reedits Lucas tries to pawn off on us.

The reason why we do thing cares as much as the action itself and that the consequences.

Also, Lucas made the Prequels with his own ideas, a thing Abrams never had made, the guy stole everything from other people.

@DeathpooltheT1000: It has absolutely no effect on you or anyone else so really you have no reason to care about the motivation. Ultimately ever action any human takes has a selfish motivation at its root, either its to make them feel good, or they think it will improve their reputation or its a tax exemption for charity or if they're religious they think it might get them in to Heaven point is even if its just a feeling everything is rooted in some form of selfish desire which means no it doesn't matter why they did this, its still a nice thing to do.

Gandhi was a hero to India for Non violent protest but his goal was simply to make sure his own people were free, he didn't give a s**t about the Muslim Indians, He was outright racist toward black people and even praised Hitler, does that make what he did any less important? No, it just means that like every other human on the planet his desire was rooted in selfishness.

This is what people say to justify their actions in everything, if everybody is the same there is nothing morally wrong, if everybody is selfish, then think only about myself and being a prick is like being a doctor, since everybody is selfish.

Then people ask themselves why the world suck and is getting worst.

Gandhi was a horrible example of a "hero", there has been people on history that had made things and for no reasons and got nothing from their actions, history call heroes to people that won, Wiston Churchill was worst that Hitler, but he is called a hero, heroes are the guys that won a write the history, not people that did the right thing, for the right reason and in the right way.

@DeathpooltheT1000: Who cares, they did a nice thing for a dying guy, you're the one being a dick here. Even if it is a PR stunt it doesn't matter because its not like it hurts you in any way shape or form and someone dying of a horrible disease gets one small moment of joy before he dies.

Who. Fcking. Cares? Seriously. They did something nice for a dying fan, quit trying to turn it into something to moan about.

@joshmightbe: @_Zombie_: So it ok to use a person to make publicity?, i once saw Pierce Brosman give money to some kids on the street and never make publicity about it, i saw Jim Caviziel giving hope to some challenged kids, still he didnt call the newspaper so people saw him doing it.

Yes, they won nothing by doing it, no publicity, using sick people is a horrible thing, if they did it for the sick guy, they would never let this get into the news, is a publicity stunt, dont change they di a nice thing, sure but still that dont change they decide to use a sick person to sell a movie.

#25 Posted by joshmightbe (19517 posts) - 4 months, 20 days ago - Show Bio

@DeathpooltheT1000: Its Okay because a dying man got his last wish granted, why can't people focus on a positive for once. Yea its great when someone does something nice with no publicity or reward but that's a very rare thing so why can't we just focus on the fact that something nice happened for someone who needed a reason to smile?

What is so wrong with being happy for the guy? Is it so important to you to speak out against a guy you're not a fan of that you can't even begrudge a dying man a movie screening?

The reason this was in the news is because the man's wife started a campaign to get the film makers to let him see it, they didn't search him out. She sent messages out to every out let she could find. And honestly it would have been a monumentally stupid thing for Abrahms or the studio to turn them down, because if they had people like you would be giving them s**t for being dicks to a dying man.
