What are some of the dumbest things that you've heard from scientist (science)? What are some of the dumbest studies/ inventions you've heard of?

The dumbest thing I've heard from science is the study that smoking marihuana gives women desert vag.

Your right. We didn't come from monkeys. We came from a species of ape that lived a long time ago

Don't know about the dumbest thing I've heard from science, but this thread is probably the dumbest thing I've heard from Comic Vine in a while.

If we're talking about modern science then I wouldn't say it produces many dumb studies, maybe incorrect but not dumb, but if we're talking about back in older times when scientific procedures were less rigorous then there were quite a few ignorant ideas.

@hylian: It's contradictory to laws of science. How can there be nothing and then, out of nowhere, there is something? Matter and energy is formed out of nothing? It makes no sense.

Thats not what the Big Bang theory posits, its rather a somewhat oversimplified version that often gets conflated with more technical and nuanced explanations. The Big Bang theory has more to do with one point, an extremely dense and hot state rapidly expanding to be how it is today. Not something from nothing, because this is science as opposed to common communication, the idea behind words are more important than two individuals assumptions about words, so… what do you mean when you say nothing and is that the same idea of what nothing is as say Lawrence Krauss? Or other cosmologists/theoretical physicists.

So its proximity is a good platform for speculation and hypothesis about what was before the Big Bang, but our knowledge is still inadequate, especially compared to the Big Bang and what happened after.

Your right. We didn't come from monkeys. We came from a species of ape that lived a long time ago

"Ape" isn't a species. Its a group of species with certain things in common. Species means you have exact same set of genes, though you will have an more or less emphasis on certain traits, and therefore have compatability to breed together.

Genes dictate basic genetic traits that are expressed through protein synthesis. Members of a species have exact same DNA molecule. Genetic variation means their can be differences among beings who possess the same basic traits(Height, width, facial features, Different limb size, etc.

There are certain things, kinds anatomical structures on other "apes" you simply will not see in any way on a human.

Species don't do that. The DNA molecule does not acquire new genes it didn't have. The DNA molecule can only adjust which of the genes it has gets more or less emphasis when it comes to protein synthesis. Even lost DNA can't account for differences that divide one species from another species.

Science isn't a person or an organization, its really more of a process of discovery. Actually a funny side effect of people lacking scientific literacy and the increasing bastardization of news into pop fluff pieces to entertain as well as inform… but mostly entertain and entertain select audiences… who usually aren't that informed, is that you get websites like Elite Daily and Vice that used dumbed down science to illicit more interest. People are better off going to the sources, then again people often don't understand the sources as well as the funny article citing urbandictionary as well. The link in the OP is a reference to another websites reference to another websites reference that is basically an advertisement for a book and whose sources are "internet forums" and "urban dictionary" its… dubious. Shouldn't drag science into something thats obviously filtered through so much… fluff.

Except when so many peoples idea of science is because of such fluff in the first place…

Adaptation consisting of using genes they already have as best they can, not getting news ones.

Humans and other organisms have a lot of genes they aren't even fully using.
