The sequel to this movie was made not to long ago and there is going to be a third one. I heard from my friends and the internet is was awlful but i needed to find out for sure because everyone has a different opinion and i like to be a movie critic but i saw the first one and had low expectations for it and sure enough i was disapointed by it. There was only one some what scary part is the end. I think the scariest thing about this movie is people trick you into wasting your money for a crappy movie.  It was an independent film so it was not made for a lot of money. But hey people do because they know if they say its scary lots of people will see it. It sells to lie. When i heard of Twilight i knew Vampires and Werewolves would be laughed at but never in my life i thought that something as dark and badass as a demon or a ghost could be laughable.

The first Paranormal Activity was one of the scariest movies I think I've ever seen. The second one was complete crap. A lot of people didn't like the first one for some reason, I think it all depends on if you like those kind of Blair Witch movies. Most of the scare factor is how well you imagination works during the movie.

Depends on the environment and the people you watch it with.

I saw the first one twice. Once in a silent theater with serious moviegoers, and the second time with family at the local theater. The first time, it was the scariest thing ever,  lol. When a scary part happens, EVERYONE in the theater knew it was going to happen, but we just didn't know what. The fun of it is to try and find it before it happens. I had a blast that time, and it was insanely fun to watch. ...Now the second time. Everyone was being a prick in the theater. Laughing, calling stuff out, etc. It turned the movie into a B-list comedy that wasn't interesting at all. So if you see it alone or with other people, make sure everything is quiet and the people you see it with actually want to watch.

The second one was was ok, btw. Not the best horror film, but it gave nice background story to what happened in the first one. I'd recommend it.

I didn't find them scary but I did enjoy them. I also watched them back to back so that may have helped.

It was a bit different, and if there's one thing that's sorely lacking in the modern horror movie genre, it's originality. That being said, I didn't find it terribly scary. Researching actual paranormal events has been a lifelong hobby of mine, and next to some of the cases I've read about, the Hollywood fluff tends to fall a bit short.

How are you supposed to get scared of shaky camera footage where you don't actually see anything?
Pointless, really.

Part 1 was literally nothing happening for 98 percent of the movie part 2 only had slightly more going on, I'm just glad i watched them online instead of paying for them cause I'd have been pissed about paying to sit and watch nothing happen for 2 hours for like 3 seconds of something mildly interesting to happen at the very end

Most of the "horror" movies now days aren't scary most of them are just gross out torture porn and the ones that aren't are 2 jump scares with long boring crap between them

the first PA movie focuses on the venture of the unknown and forces unseen to the naked eye which plays with images of what's and who's in the human psyche.. and i found that both interesting and scary.. there is a difference between being scared because you see something scary and being scared because of the dread of the unknown lurking around you.. i find the first one to be a bit of a cliché actually..

@lord_oraculous016: They were just Blair witch project in a house, there was no building dread in either movie it was long stretches of boredom with occasional hints of danger that were so obvious there might as well have been a giant neon danger sign in front of them. Every scene that could've been interesting was pretty much ruined by either the actors or the dialog if you ask me it would've been a lot scarier if the chick had just been slowly going insane and they'd actually shown her kill the guy

I finally watched the movie after looking at this thread. I'm not going to be able to sleep for a week. Then again, most things scare me.

I nearly fell asleep with the first one, but my driving hatred and desire to punch the guy who used the Ouija board kept me awake.

I found it pretty unnerving. And enjoyed it thoroughly. I haven't been scared by a movie like that in years. I guess it's really more of a psychological thing. Most horror movies don't really do it for me.

In the film, it was said that ghosts appeared more "human", while the demons were there only to put you through more and more pain.  I wondered what purpose the ghosts had.
i remember the demonologist saying that whatever being in there doesn't want him to interfere so he did not.. plus, i don't there ever truly a ghost.. i think it as a demon all along..

My thoughts exactly, I'm pretty sure a ghost wouldn't drag some one off to kill them.

I did not find the first film scary at all, if anything, it was like a comedy and found it hard to take it seriously.
