To an extent. So writers will add physics into the comics to make it seem more or less "real" but there are times when there are things that happen that just don't make sense but we read it anyway because it's so bada$$. ;-)
Most of it is canceled out by forces that only exist in the Comic World... Like Green Lantern Constructs or Heavily Advanced Alien Races, or other Dimensions.

Your *Probably* Right about that, But what are the Odds guys like Lobo or GL are flying around somewhere out their? If anything, they'd be less advanced than us... Or, they would have a Completely Different Concept of Society and technology that Humans could never acheive because of their nature.
