Title says it all.
Do Brown people face more racism since 9/11?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Depends on the shade of brown. If we're specifically talking about people of Middle Eastern descent, then yes of course. Duh. Simon Baz's entire backstory focused on that. There are 1.6 billion Muslims in the world. That's nearly a quarter of the population. Obviously they're not all terrorists, so we really need to stop with the paranoid suspicion and discrimination.
Personally, no. But if you're of Islamic origin, then yes, I'm sure there are several parts of the world where you'll face discrimination.
everyone in the US has had a time when they were picked on heavily.
go look at Japanese american's around ww2. people who were born in the US and never set foot in Japan - thrown into internment camps by the government just because of their race.
in comparison, getting called a bad names is a joke.
Of course.
I can't tell you how many times I've heard ignorant idiots in public spew anti Middle Eastern rants to each other.

Land of the free, home of the brave.
The world is growing more racist towards everyone continually. I stopped coming to CV for a few months because I had seen that it was apparently acceptable to post a picture of a white girl crying with a black guy in the backround laughing titled "white tears". I find that racist and not one bit funny. Personally I identify as white because that's how society views me but that's not what I am. Look to the song by NOFX called Don't Call me White. I'm a mutt made up of various backrounds which has made me one of a kind the way I see it. I'll be judged by what I've done and not how I was born.
I can also say as someone from New York we still carry a very heavy heart for what happened on 9/11. R.I.P
Well, only middle eastern people.
You sure?
@frozen: yeah, it unified everyone else
@frozen: yeah, it unified everyone else
What do you mean?
@frozen: it was a national disaster, it unified many Americans agaisn't the threat.
Oh it goes both ways.
One day, ill have you guys up to Calgary, and I'll take you up to a place I like to call Rundle. Where, essentially, white people are not allowed, and a mosque is on every corner.
@rd189: us white people have it hard
@frozen: it was a national disaster, it unified many Americans agaisn't the threat.
What's the threat?
Most people need to realize that terrorists and extremists make up less than 1% of the Islamic faith.
If we are talking about people from the Middle East then of course. There's a lot of arabs and people like them because they are not all arabian and it is beyond obvious that every single one of them is a terrorist or some psychopath. So the society should really think on this descrimination that has been going on for so long because there are terrorists from any type of skin color.
Not really, 9/11 just put a spot light on the racism that was already there. See people never get outraged against anything until the people around them start making an issue about it. If you're a student of history you'd know that racism is actually not as bad as it used to be, at least we've now narrowed down the hate to just different skin tones and religions for the most part. Don't get me wrong, Racism is still a huge problem in the world but don't think just because the news focuses more on something now days, that its in any way new.
Not as much as other races sure they get the occasional joke but most of the time its nothing too serious
I've witnessed some serious stuff...
Like, middle easterners getting beat up at parties and sh*t for not speaking 'merican and smelling (true story). Rednecks man...
@buttersdaman000: *sigh* I hate racism. But people are just violent at partiesI was once scared to go to a hispanic party in fear of getting beat down just for being black.

Really? Where do you live? When I was Cali and NM, hispanics and blacks got along perfectly....though, it might have just been the area I was in..

Yah, i've seen a few different race fueled fights. Mostly white vs middle eastern...
@frozen: @buttersdaman000: As a black man I cant say that they're treated worse than us. I live in Nashville ive been to a hispanic party or two before but that day my friend just warned me
@stormdriven: Where are you getting that percent from..?
Lol, "brown people."
I suppose Middle Easterners do, and especially those who follow the Islamic faith receive a lot of flack for something that an extremist minority do.
Where I live, racism has always been a major problem. Not so much different after 9/11 it got a little worse for a while after it but settled down. But the uk has always been xenophobic.
@silverpool: From an imam I spoke to
It's about the same for Latinos.
...not reaaaaalllllllllly.

Says the white guy who doesn't live in L.A.
@humanrocket: Well I am originally from CA, so I know the mentality of White folks there. I agree it's a problem, but not an international or even national one like the discrimination against the Islamic and anyone who looks Islamic.

There's actually different kinds of white people here in L.A.
@jaken7: It's to anyone that even looks Islamic, the Sikh temple shooting was an indiciation of that.
...like I said.
