Delusion meets Reality

This old guy thought he was some kind of martial arts master with special powers that allows him to defeat opponents without even having to touch them. He can easily defeats dozens of his students with little effort.

He also bet some thousands of dollars saying that no one could beat him.

Unfortunately (for him), his belief in his own superhuman powers didnt stand the test of reality very well.

What do you guys/gals think?

I've seen this video before and while I still have my doubts if it's real or not. If it is, who really deserves a smack are the students and witnesses entertaining the delusions of an obviously mentally ill old man.

I suppose the question is, is he really mentally ill? How would you define "mentally ill"?

if you believe you can fly by flapping your arms and can shoot fireballs by screaming and you can't, then you are mentally ill. That is all.

Ah I remember this, it's a good example of what happens when you start to believe your own bullsh**.

Or the bullsh** that everyone else around you believes. I'm thinking of those students, who enabled this guy to keep on believing his craziness and eventually get his face smashed in.

When it comes to teaching people self defense, and you're trying to teach people a complete BS way of defending yourself, you are not only doing a disservice to yourself but everyone else. The man might as well be telling people if they get into fights, they stick their face out and take every hit possible.

To put things simply,when it comes to others and their business,I could care less. Maybe that guy is mentally ill,maybe they're fooling with him,etc. Whatever the case,it's their business and I can't say I really care.

I'm not saying that no one is allowed to care,but on a personal level,I really don't care to waste my time in the business of other people. I thought there was something else to this thread,though.

Honestly,if you see it as distrusting,I can't exactly say I care tbh. You can also say the same thing about my lack of trust in other people,and you can probably say the same thing to many people around me who just decide that they don't care. Did I use to care (about other people and things like social matters)? Of course. But now I realize that there's less and less of a reason to care as long as it doesn't pertain to me....

If you want to be sanctimonious and pretend like you can speak for my experiences (as if I can't), then I can't really do anything about that.

So maybe it's just better to agree to disagree. You can do that,though. You know,go help people and stop them from being mugged,stabbed,etc etc. If you want to care,that's your right. If someone else wants to,that's their right,all the more power to them. I simply don't care,and it's odd how things have become far....better that way for me,without a doubt (can't exactly explain it,too sick to right now). And it's not like you or other people will understand,so I'm not going to even bother (not that I care to share my personal life with others,not that anyone was asking)

I've been in touch with reality before.

They're probably not intentionally humoring him. I'd say that they're suffering from some sort of mass delusion (or whatever the correct term is) which makes them (maybe not all, but some) think that his powers are real and that they're actually being affected by them.

The human brain is a complex thing, and there's all sorts of weird, illogical, and counter-intuitive phenomena that the brain is susceptible to.

What do you think his parents are like?
