Why don't we get to do fun things like that in history in Australia?
DC students were asked to compare Bush to Hitler
I didn't like him either, but that's just going too far.
SMH...stupid teacher. Theyre nothing alike. Teachers lucky only had to apologize, bet ya if it was obama to hitler would have gotten fired.
@immortalone: A lot ot it was his staff too. Goebbels was a master of propaganda and public speaking. His total war speech is chilling.
When you get can crowds of thousands of people to enthusiastically accept death...that's pretty powerful stuff right there.

@razzatazz: "Hitler ruled through fear and intimidation. He motivated people with the threat of violence, not with actual rhetoric."
Not completely true.
Only not true in the sense that the ones that weren't ruled by intimidation was the military and the police.
For his flaws, Hitler actually was a very motivational public speaker. A good deal of his people followed him, and not through the threat of violence.
This. The Nazis actually became the most powerful party in the German parliament because so many people voted for him (Though he did use a lot of illegal methods).
When I was 12 we were always given very clean versions of history, no politics, at least no overt politics. Personally I don't think that Bush lied just to get his oil buddies rich anymore than I think Rosevelt knew about Peal Harbor in advance. But if you want the kids to grow up to be democrats teaching them that republicans are bad to begin with is a good start. Great empires decline in little ways and teaching kids to hate is one of those ways.
@ostyo: Off the top of my head, there's only one person I can remember comparing to Hitler... and he's not even a real person.
