We accept both real names and stage names here, mate. :p
1. Michael Jordan
2. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
3. Magic Johnson
4. Bill Russel
5. Wilt Chamberlain
6. Larry Bird
7. Hakeem Olajuwon
8. Tim Duncan
9. Oscar Robertson
10. Jerry West
@dreadmaster: Good list. Only thing is...I think Duncan is a little early. I kinda like my all time greats to already be retired so I can gauge the final numbers.
My Dream Team:
Center: Shaq (in his prime)
Power Forward: Tim Duncan
Small Forward: Larry Bird
Shooting Guard: Michael Jordan
Point Guard: Magic Johnson
Bench and Back-Ups:
Center: Kareem
Power Forward: Hakeem O.
Small Forward: Karl Malone
Shooting Guard: Kobe Bryant
Point Guard: John Stockton
With everone in their prime, they'll be pretty hard to beat. Just saying....
Bump cool thread :)

@dadivineking: I,m sorry but i gotta ask...Why do you have Lebron above MJ?
Bigger, stronger, faster - better at carrying lesser teams and making them more than, more versatile defender [given he can guard all positions for a possession or two], better rebounder, better playmaker/passer, more efficient scorer, so on and so forth.
Jordan is more skilled, most likely the better one-on-one defender, and better shooter, but LeBron is more talented and even his "limited" scoring range doesn't vitiate his efficacy in putting the ball in the hoop.

Planning on making a blog to expand on this in the future, though.

- Fair enough.
- The only things i dont agree with is the faster part..Id say Jordan was way way more agile, An infinitely better ball handler(Which i guess covers what you said about skill) and alot quicker on his feet in terms of finesse and ball stepping, Lebron travels way too much..lmao..And On the fast break id say they were close in speed...Not to mention the fact that Jordan had a much higher vertical...Lebron only really advantage over Jordan physically is his Strength and power and height advantage, guarding Lebron would be like trying to guard Shaq when he played for The magic...That combination of Speed and Raw power is just too much.
I don't think people give Lebron credit for what he's done in the NBA, and it's obvious when they him among the greatest ever. There's MJ and LeBron and then there's everyone else. I'd give LeBron the nod for being the GOAT after last year's finals performance, which was the greatest in NBA history.
how was it a MUCH tougher period. the ONLY reason people beleive this is because Magic era 80's 90' had SO MANY hall famers. this is crap the the reason is solely that basketball was truly global and at it's peak (whether Jordan is the driving force and was a brand or not). basketball was at it's most poplar during this period NOT better, hell today's athletes are better than Jordan if you go by pure athletic ability. better shooters, higher jumpers, faster players, better handles is the game Better or worse? you an only be as good as your opposition is.
GSW proved what a team of smalls can do. and outside shooting on another level
kobe showed he could win with shaq and without him (jordan would never have won as many without pippen)
Lebron shows an ability on a complete other level and can play all 5 positions AND DOMINATE.
no we are moving towards super teams (GSW, CAVs) which is moving away from
Many would argue 70's and 80's games were MUCH more physical (pistons key was a no go zone)
hell Dirk single highhandedly took the heat on and won WITH wade, le bron and bosch
magic johnson and larry bird were next level for there era

" @Prince CortSether said:" I'm very surprised (okay, not really) to see Wilt Chamberlain on most people's lists. I think he was certainly a good player, but by no means should he be in the top 10. A lot of people seem to forget that he was playing in the 1950s and 1960s when basketball was still developing as a sport. The way the game was played back then was much more different as well. They took way more shots which is why Wilt's stats are so high up. If he were playing in today's game I don't think his stats would be nearly as good. "So because Wilt dominated an era of basketball that was different then todays game we should not consider him one of the Greats ? Thats Crazy as Hell ! So what the game was different back then... he played and dominated the era he grew up with... and that is what matters... it was not his fault the quality of play was like that then... all that matters is he dominated when he did play... "
I'm not saying he was bad. Yes, he was superb for his time. But in a top 10 list I'd say it's stretching it to put him in the same area as people like MJ who dominated in a much tougher period. Do you really think Wilt would be having 100 pt games in today's games?
impossible to do. best in each generation is easier:
50's / 60's Bill Russell. Oscar Robertson. Wilt Chamberlain.
70's Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Julius Erving. bob mcadoo
80's Magic johnson, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Moses Malone
90's Micheal jordan, hakeem Olajuwon ,Scottie Pippen, Charles Barkley
00's Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Le bron James, Shaq O'neil, Allen Iverson, Dirk Newinski, Dwayne Wade.
10's Le bron James, Steph Curry, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, Carmello Anthony
there are many that have been missed and are great players in rubbish teams or great players that had their carrer shortened but were destined for greatnes
A Lot Has Changed In 11 Years...
1. Michael Jordan
2. Lebron James
3. Kareem Abdul Jabbar
4. Bill Russell
5. Larry Bird
6. Magic Johnson
7. Wilt Chamberlain
8. Kobe Bryant
9. Tim Duncan
10. Hakeem Olajuwon
I am thinking about Stephen Curry in My Top 10 NBA Players now because of the 4 NBA Titles and latest NBA Finals MVP. If Curry wins another Championship he is for sure Top 10 and maybe we start talking about him as Top 5 ?
1- Michael Jordan
2- Wilt Chamberlin
3- Kareem
4- Bill Russell
5- Larry Bird
6- Magic Johnson
7- Kobe
8- Shaq
9- Lebron
10- Curry
all in that respective order
But strongest is Wilt
Fastest speed and with execution going with Kobe
Vision of the field Bird
Most accurate with large range shots going with Curry
Most all around deadly going with Jordan
Most successful wins and best defense player obviously Bill Russell
I honestly don’t know what makes LBJ and Magic unique compared to others here unless we are talking accolades like mvps or impact as LBJ has bigger impact than Magic, and Curry for sure.
