Professor X and Superman= X-man, he's a mutant, when he was a baby his parents found out he was a mutant and abadoned him on the side of a road, this was where a married couple called Johnathon and Martha Kent found him and adopted him after discovering he was a mutant. The raised him on their farm in Smallville and raised him with good values, his powers of telepathy, superhuman strength, speed, invulnerability and flight developed as he grew up (early on he also became bald as a side affect of his mutation).
When he was an adult he moved to Metropolis, here he saw first hand how mutants are treated (hence why he kept his mutant powers secret), to help he became a superhero called X-man, he made a costume but didn't use a mask because he wanted people to trust him so to hide his identity he used his telepathy to make him appear differently to people and made people taking pictures mess up the photos. Because he was such a good hero he did help the mutant cause but it wasn't enough so he gathered a team of mutants to help him fight crime and prove mutants weren't inherently evil.
The first mutant he recruited was Logan Stone aka Cyber claw (cyborg and Wolverine). Cyber claw is a mutant with superhuman healing and the ability to bring out three caws on each hand, years ago he was captured by a secret government agency who wished to turn him into a super soldier, they implanted cybernetic parts to him and laced his skeleton and claws with adimantium, however he broke free and escaped but had no memory of his life before, because of his inhuman appearance he stayed away from people and became a drifter in the countryside. X-man, using his telepathy to find suitable mutants found him wandering near the edge of smallville and convinced him to join his team.
Next he recruited Hal McCoy (green lantern and beast), Hal was a mutant with superhuman strength, speed, and reflexes as well as abnormally large hands and feet, when he was in college, getting his PHD in genetics a green energy field surrounded him and took him to a crashed alien ship with an alien called Abin Sur. Abin explained he was a green lantern, an intergalactic police officer, he was dying and his ring chose Hal as his successor which he convinced Hal to be. After this he was taken to Ooa by his ring for training, after this time he was discovered by X-man and asked to join his team which he agreed to under the alias of green beast (one thing he would do would be to surround himself in a green energy exoskeleton, it resembled a wild beast to be more threatening, and would attack in this form to combine his green lantern powers with his natural powers for big physical attacks).
Next X-man he recruited Warren Hall III AKA Hawk (Hawkman and Angel). Hawk was born in ancient Egypt where his name was Khufu and he developed a pair of wings that allowed him to fly at great speeds. Because of these wings people believed him to be the son of Ra (since they both had bird features and Hawk was so powerful) and was treated as such. This lead to Hath-Set, the current prince, to become very jealous of of Khufu since it was believed the royal family were the only mortal descendants of Ra, so he had him killed in the night, Khufu's death lead to his second mutation to manifest, the ability to remember all his past lives after reincarnation, thus he lived many life times, (in each he developed his wings) even to modern day where he was born into the wealthy Hall family who named him Warren Hall III. When he was an adult and his wings were fully developed he decide to become a superhero called Hawk, it was at this time that he was discovered by X-man and recruited into his team.
The fourth recruit was Diana Grey aka Wonder girl. Wonder girl was an Amazon, a society of women who were mutants who had developed immortality, eventually finding each other and forming a society on an island to avoid prosecution for being mutants and women in ancient Greek society. The women called themselves Amazons and used the powers various members of their group to hide their island home from the outside world. In modern day, seeing the evils in "Man's world" and the wonders of their society the Amazons decided to send an ambassador to help "Man's world", Diana (who would use the last name Grey in Man's world and who's powers were tacticle telekinesis that allowed her to simulate superhuman strength, flight and could be used to protect her from harm, she also had telepathy and immortality like everyone in her society) was chosen despite her mother, Queen Hippolyta's, misgivings. Using her telepathic abilities Diana influenced people like those in city hall to help her create the Diana Grey identity and then have no memory of doing so. She then became a super heroine called Wonder girl where she would cross paths with X-man and he would recruit her into his team.
The final member was Nathaniel Drake aka Captain Ice (Iceman and Captain Atom). Nathaniel was born in 1948 and in 1968 he in the local park in his town with his girlfriend when a local group of thugs attacked them, forcing Nathaniel to use his secret mutant powers to freeze the thug leader, terrifying everyone and leading to Nathaniel's arrest for assault, though he was taken to a special government facility that was more equip at holding him and other mutant criminals. When their he was offered a pardon in exchange for taking part in an experiment involving hitting him with radiation from an experimental bomb made from alien technology discovered in an alien ship crash in hopes of accelerating his mutation, the radiation sent him into modern day, it also accelerated his mutation, causing his body to become sentient ice, along with his ice control powers he had superhuman strength, resistance to injury and the ability to fly. His return to the world garnered attention from lots of people including X-man who managed to recruit him into his team in exchange for helping him hide from the government who wished to control him and to help him adjust to modern life. The team now formed X-man called the team the X-league.
The team's arch enemy is Erik Luthor (Magneto and Lex Luthor), Erik is a mutant with magnetic based powers as well being a genius, he grew up with X-man in Smallville where they were good friends but had differing opinions on how to help mutants who were being prosecuted, X-man believed they should strive for peaceful co-existence while Erik believed Mutants should take over, it was this differing of opinion that lead to them ending their friendship, later Erik started a business called Erikcorp, keeping his mutant power secret so he wouldn't lose business though he would later use his power and resources to further his mutant domination cause leading him and X-man to become enemies. To avoid Erik using his knowledge of X-man's true identity against him he wiped Erik's memory of him. Later Erik had a helmet built that would protect him from X-man's telepathic powers.
