Christopher Paolini plans new books in ‘Eragon' world

“Over the past ten years, I’ve thought of a whole bunch of stories that I would like to write, stories in all different genres. Last I’ve looked, I have between twenty to thirty completely new books all plotted out. I’m pretty sure that I’m going to tackle science fiction next, but who knows? In the long term, though, I definitely intend to return to Eragon’s world and write a fifth book. After spending so long with the world and the characters of the Inheritance Cycle, I can’t bring myself to walk away from them for the rest of my life.”

IMO the last book Inheritance was awful, really, really bad. The series dragged on too long, and it appeared unorganized. I guess I wouldn't mind if he wrote another book but I wouldn't say I'm excited for it.

There's a lot of hate on the Inheritance cycle, but I enjoyed it. Yes, it has flaws but it was still fun. Whatever he plans to do, I just hope he makes it as epic and overall better than his previous books.

Not interested, read up to Brisingr and then promptly gave up before Inheritance came out.

The entire series was dues ex machina bull crap.

I attribute this to the fact that Paolini was a teenager when he started writing the series and, too my knowledge, has never truly had any formal education in creative writing. He just spends his time taking what people like Tokein, Jordan, and the like have done for the genre, construing it into something "original", and then putting it out.

I hope he doesn't let any work become published in the new few years so he can figure out how to construct a proper narrative.

Like the first book...but the sequel reminded me as to why I hate most fantasy books.

The movie didn't help at all, even with Jeremy Irons.

Paolini should stop writing for good. Leave the real literature to the masters.

I loved the Inheritance Cycle right up until the ending of Inheritance which I found to be pretty disappointing. I'm looking forwards to his future novels.

Completely agree. The one thing I would mention is that the last book, Inheritance, he supposedly took a lot longer to "plan out" and make sure it ended properly, unsure of the release date and such.. Most of what occurred in Brisingr was just extra content, so I'm not sure why he felt the book needed to be split into four. Tolkein could have just added in the loads of information in his appendices but chose not to, and the amount could fill a book or more.

Hopefully you're right and he goes back to the drawing board, it's never too late to learn something new or refine your craft.

Same, although I found narrative weak, and some aspects borrowed too heavily off other fantasy novels, nonetheless I've stuck with him so far, and just hope Eragon will return to Algaesia.

@Xanni15: lol he can make some sort of plane with the Eldunari,

Doesn't he need him and arya's / murtagh and arya's dragon to hook up to continue dragon's as a species?

@The_Thunderer: I just meant that his new digs is only a short dragon ride away from the main land. :]

Yes, I think that was the plan. Just mate whatever dragons with each other that can.
