North American Heavy Metal band Iced Earth have had a heralded 20+ plus year career, writing some of the best Concept Albums known to the heavy metal world. They are progressive/thrash/melodic/powermetal and wrote an album called "The Dark Saga" based on Todd McFarlanes Spawn. Todd even drew the cover artwork for the album. Look it up on google and listen to the album on youtube and lemme know if you guys dig it.
Jon Schaffer the principal songwriter and defacto leader and guitarist of the group has a distinct guitar gallop much like Iron Maiden. He also wrote a 12 minute masterpiece known as "Dante's Inferno" on the album Burnt Offerings. Very cool band that enjoys comic books just like all of us.
