That sense of dread slinking it's way up your spine may be causing you to ask yourself questions like, "Was it Thor?" or "Did they kill Spider-man twice in the same year?"
No, True Believers. Far worse than that. They've gotten rid of such longtime Marvel staples like Mettle. That's right! Mettle! Worse still, hero-killer Dennis Hopeless has already extinguished the brilliant flame of Red Raven (Dania) before she even made her tenth appearance in any comic book...EVER! *sob* Oh, Red Raven-parentheses-Dania! You were taken before your time!
Act quickly and sign the petition before another cornerstones of Marvel Comics like Juston Seyfert or Deathlocket meet a similarly "Hopeless" fate! Only 28,000 more signatures to have our voices heard!
Okay, but seriously. How is this a thing? Most of these characters haven't even been around longer than three years. By the Hoary Hosts of Hoggoth, Deadpool took longer to catch on. He could have gotten the axe at any time, but fan's kept clamoring for The Merc-with-a-Mouth. Given that there are only 100 signatures at the time this blog is being written/typed, I'm willing to bet I'll never see any of these characters on the cover of Avengers with the tagline,"Because You Demanded It!"
It's okay to let characters die. That's what happens in real life. Grounding a fictional environment by injecting a little jarring realism is a wonderful (albeit kind of played out) way to get readers to give a crap about the characters. Joss Whedon did it. And he gave us Firefly. And the Avengers! And Angel. And lest we forget, far less important characters have come back half a dozen times for no reason. Remember Reaper? Don't worry, that feeling of confusion is the correct response . He's been dead and back three or four times since the 90s and not a single one of them has ever been explained. Editor's just keep forgetting he's dead. And he's under the X-men umbrella, for Cyttorak's sake. He even had his own toy (true fact)!
So, if the powers-that-be at Marvel can't remember an X-villain getting deadified, what makes you think they're going to keep track of any of these third stringers falling prey to Arcade in Avengers Arena? A petition for Red Raven and bupkiss for poor, old Peter Parker?
Fanboys in this town used to believe in something.
