Just 3 years ago virtually all stores were closed on this day. Now, stores are opening as early as 4 pm. Not only is this causing less and less people to spend time with their family, this is forcing workers to work on a day previously reserved for family.
Black Friday has ruined Thanksgiving
@pooty: December 25th is not Jesus's birthday
@pooty: December 25th is not Jesus's birthday
Well the day that they decided to celebrate his birthday then...
Too many people spend money they haven't earned to buy things they don't want to impress people they don't like.

Considering he's an imaginary person, his birthday is any day we choose
Thanksgiving always gets screwed over. Their are not songs, movies, or decorations that get people hyped for the holiday...just food...which we get every holiday
@pooty: Jesus is real!
@pooty: on a scale of 1 to 100 that offended me by the slightest (1.5), considering I'm christian.
@pooty: He's not "imaginary". He was very very real.
@symbioticspider-man: @_slim_: Yes back me up!
But pooty can think whatever he wants, it's his opinion, until JUDGEMENT DAY anyways.

My comment shouldn't offend anyone. If saying he is real is not offensive then saying he is not real is not offensive. My point is Dec 25 is the day chosen to celebrate his birthday regardless of whether he was real or not. But this thread is about Thanksgiving so let's get back on that.
@pooty: LoL it doesn't offend me XD
@pooty: You might not believe in Jesus as the savior of man(which I respect), but the fact is that he was very much real.

I'm aware that many historians say he existed. Likewise many say he never did. like aliens and bigfoot you have thousands of people who say they exist and thousands who say they don't. most data can be interpreted in many ways. IMO it is undisputed that King Tut or Abraham Lincoln existed. I don't think Jesus is undisputed.

and thanksgiving was my favorite!! because it brought families together to eat and enjoy each others company. It had nothing to do with money. Now, they can't even wait until 12am!! and i don't blame big business. i expect them to be money hungry. I blame THE CONSUMER for participating!!
As a Brit I've heard of Thanksgiving from my friends in the states, but what's black friday? Is that like an African-American holiday?
lol. i live in the states and have no idea why it's called "black" friday. It's the day after Thanksgiving when stores have tremendous sales to kick off the Christmas season
I agree.
I think Black Friday has had quite the impact that has in some, way, shape or form ruined the infrastructure of the world when it comes to family.

It is derived from the term "in the black", which in business practice is slang for making a profit, because retailers usually make a lot of money on that day.
What if Thanksgiving ruined Black Friday?
Except for the fact that the first Thanksgiving was in 1621, far before any retail store opened.

I love this comment because it's completely true. They're feeding the businesses intensives.
But then again, when the first store started black Friday shopping on Thursday, its not like anyone asked for it, it just sorta happen. No one was begging them to open this early. But then every store just had to follow.
Too many people spend money they haven't earned to buy things they don't want to impress people they don't like.
Is that Mark Twain?
@petey_is_spidey: In business I don't think anything just happens. They do surveys to see what people want. If the first store opened on Thursday and the consumer was boycotted that would have been the end of it.
I don't mind, as a person who doesn't celebrate holidays, I hate it when stores shut down for them, sometimes I need to buy stuff on holidays too.
@maccyd: Will Rogers.
@noone301994: Godammit. I knew the quote, just wanted to see if I could guess who said it without looking.

I just have to say it is hilarious how this thread turned from black Friday is annoying to is jesus real.
@deadcool_xd: That seems to happen a lot in the off-topic section.

Your encouragement is inspirational.

You dont celebrate holidays? Why?
@petey_is_spidey: I have no family besides my mother (well, family I care about anyway). Thus, a holiday without family is just another day of the week.
@noone301994: Tyler Durden?!
Walmart is gonna be packed with Black Folks looking to buy 32 inch flat screen TV's for 100 dollars...
Black Friday didn't do s**t. Nobody is forcing people to go shopping. They choose to go and act like animals because we raised a generation of spoiled children that loose their s**t when they don't get whatever stupid crap they don't need under the tree.
Your encouragement is inspirational.

You did it again. I didn't think it was possible, but you've delivered yet another GIF that won't let me breathe from laughing so hard.
Apparently, there was a time when stores were closed on Sundays. Which I have to be honest, I can't imagine because I do most of my grocery shopping on that day.
@ms-lola: Lol that's what I'm here for.
