Jay is a better lyricist than Rakim, has a wide variety of subject matter, better flows, etc.

You could switch Nas and Jay Z or switch Big L and Rakim, but J is just talented as any of the MCs mentioned here.. if not better.

Also, the fact that J has evolved with Hip-Hop and remained on top because of it.. is something not many artist can do. He's learn to adapt with every new era of different styles and sound.
