The Sopranos.
Darn, I actually had that on my list, but somehow forgot to put it in the poll. Sorry.
Twilight Zone and the Simpsons (early seasons at least) = amazing. I honestly haven't watched most of the other shows though.
I haven't watched The Sopranos yet...so I can't comment on them. Also, I hate to bring up that cop out "These are all very different shows, apples and oranges" thing..but I will, and help categorize them.
1. Best Drama: Breaking Bad
2. Best Comedy: Seinfeld
3. Best Animation: The Simpsons (first half of the show)
4. Best Sci Fi: The Twilight Zone
5. Best Fantasy: Game of Thrones
Probably The Simpsons. Everyone loves the Simpsons.
Its worth noting that shows like "The Wire", "Lost" and "24" were essentially the catalysts for the TV renaissance we are currently in, so I think those should get a mention.

Never cared for 24, and Lost was good til the end, but The Wire is very under appreciated. Very good television.
Anything other than "The Wire" should be disregarded. I have never seen a more realistic "cop drama" in my life. I dare anyone to definitively say who's the "bad guys" and who's the "good guys". It operates in shades of grey that no other show before had attempted to portray in a "police drama".

Marlo was the bad guy. I don't care how grey the rest of the show was, that n*gga needed to die, lol.

It all matters on opinion. I have always thought The Wire was kind of boring and I kind of think the last three seasons of Lost were sort of contrived compared to the first three. However, I do think all these shows gave a more, I don't know, "cinematic, higher quality" to televison dramas, and we wouldn't have shows like Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, Game of Thrones etc. without them.

I actually never watched The Wire. Did you watch The Shield?
@emequious_swerve: Here's how I feel about The Wire
Season 1- Decent
Season 2- Boring
Season(s) 3-4- Fantastic
Season 5- Very good, though I didn't really care about the News room story.

True...which makes the ending sooooo poetically tragic no!?

Dude, you would forget The Shield if you watch The Wire. The best way to do it is go marathon and watch an entire season at a time. Don't believe me trust Jeremy Jahns. The only thing I will say is; Omar is one of the most memorable characters ever!

Cool... I'll check it out. I loved The Shield though. If The Wire is better then it will blow me away.

I will let you know that it starts slow and doesn't really have a lot of action. So there aren't any big "chase scenes" or "huge cop/robbers-style shootouts" but the character development from season 1 to season 5 is HUGE. It's definitely more character driven shows to ever grace a small screen.
My favorite show over the past couple years have EASILY been The Newsroom. The cast chemistry and character dialogue are unbelievable. Head and shoulders above everything else.

Good show. Are you watching Homeland and House of Cards? Also great shows.
@willpayton: Homeland yes. House of Cards no.
The latter is on Netflix right? I don't have a sub.
Claire Danes is really amazing though. Her acting last season totally carried the show. I felt it got a little campy from time to time, and I only kept watching because of her at one point. Not to mention, despite not being really attracted to her at all normally...once she starts acting crazy her hotness factor goes up by over 9000 for some reason to me.

LOL...
House of Cards is pretty good. I'd say it's around the level of The Newsroom, but not as good as Homeland. But, that obviously depends on preference.
Legend of the Seeker, hands down. Don't care how you feel about the books the show is buttered tits.
Heheh... nice expression! =)
@willpayton: BBC's Sherlock.

I havent seen that show either, but have heard some good things. I might just check it out... thanks!
@batmannflash: Could you explain why every one believes this is such a master piece of a show?
sherlock is phenomenal. bland excuse that they're different shows aside (they are judged by how much they entertain you and make you watch the next episode), 1 episode of sherlock is better than whole series on the list. subjectively.

It always leaves me guessing. Tons of surprises. Amazing actors! Especially Bryan Cranston. Seriously, like basically all the actors in this show are fantastic. The music is cool and the story is emotional and dramatic. Over the course of 5 seasons, you get to see the downfall of Walter White and his turn into villainly, which is fascinating to watch. Have you seen it before?

It's amazing. Especially if you've read the books. Benedict Cumberbatch is a beast. :D
For me, The Wire is as good as it gets. The way David Simon was able to protray every level of society, and how the drug game affects them all simultaneously, and separately, was amazing. Season 1: The Streets and drug distribution. Season 2: Drug importation. Season 3: Effects on the localized Government. Season 4: Schools and recruiting. Season 5: Media.
Deadwood is another one that I loved. Damn HBO for running out of funding. Same with Rome.
Where's Supernatural, The Newsroom, or House of Cards?
I like Supernatural also but among the best?
@darkazrael999: soooooooo good!

You said it. Cannot wait for Season 3. :D
@batmannflash: No, but I hear/read about it non stop.
