80's

They all got some highs and lows but all my personal favorite bands were mostly active in 2000-2010.

Depends. As a whole I'd say 80s, but I love listening to modern day metal (which is the genre I prefer)

#6 Posted by warlock360 (27916 posts) - - Show Bio

Gonna go with 90's would have almost gone for 80's. The meaning of the songs coming out lately are really retarted. Especially AVICII, Taio Cruz and the likes.

#7 Posted by Edamame (27887 posts) - - Show Bio

70s.

I have actually never even listened to 30s, 40s or 50s music before.

#8 Posted by Lunacyde (17618 posts) - - Show Bio

@warlock360: You just don't listen to the right modern music lol

#9 Edited by JetiiMitra (8076 posts) - - Show Bio

1500s. Dem chants.

#10 Posted by IrishX (2262 posts) - - Show Bio

Top 5 in this order..

  • 60's
  • 80's
  • 1930 and below
  • 90's (Horrible music could make this really the worst but there was some awesome punk/hardcore music that redeems the decade)
  • 70's (Having Disco as part of your era really hurts you but there was still some good carry over from the 60's to get it here)

90s

From about 1960 to 1974 was the best in my opinion. There was good and great music made after 1974, but those were the golden years.

#13 Posted by warlock360 (27916 posts) - - Show Bio

@lunacyde: hit me with some songs then, and they need to outweigh the majority of bad ones that are pop at the moment

#14 Posted by WillPayton (9034 posts) - - Show Bio

All decades have their good music and bad music. That's why I'm not voting in the poll. I dont see any one being better than the others. It usually just comes down to what decade you grew up in. Nostalgia is too big a factor.

#15 Posted by GeekBait (776 posts) - - Show Bio

I voted 2000s. So many good albums came out in that decade. Also a lot of nostalgia with that decade (I was born in '96 so I proudly consider myself a 2000s kid).

#16 Posted by WillPayton (9034 posts) - - Show Bio

Objectively speaking, the poll is hardly fair. "1930 and below" includes almost all of music history, including:

  • Beethoven
  • Mozart
  • Bach
  • Tchaikovsky
  • Strauss
  • Chopin
  • Wagner
  • Rachmaninoff
  • Stravinsky
  • Verdi
  • Vivaldi
  • Brahms
  • Liszt
#17 Posted by JetiiMitra (8076 posts) - - Show Bio

Can't really decide. Grew up with my parents' 70s-80s, listened to 90s and 2000s on the radio, enjoy some 2010s+ now on my own. I'd say I enjoy about the same amount of songs from each era, and I enjoy them equally. No real winner.

@willpayton:

The reason I said "1930 and below" is because I didn't feel like listing every single era since the creation of music.

Sure, I understand... just saying that it might have been better to just exclude everything below that for practical reasons. You cant compare thousands of years of music to individual decades.

Also, it's hard to objectively determine which decade had "better" music. Might have been best to have the poll on "favorite" decades of music, rather than "better".

#20 Posted by Lunacyde (17618 posts) - - Show Bio

@warlock360: Wait, do they have to be pop, or any particular genre?

#21 Posted by King Saturn (223718 posts) - - Show Bio

1980's for me

#22 Posted by superstay (9622 posts) - - Show Bio

Besides this being a totally matter of opinion, 60s by far was the best.

80s

Arguably the greatest heavy metal albums of all time came out in the 80s

Number of the Beast

Ride the Lightning

Master of Puppets

Rust in Peace

Reign in Blood

Piece of Mind

Powerslave

Seventh Son of a Seventh Son

My thoughts exactly.

90s to early 2000's

This for me. Hip-hop particularly was at its pinnacle in the 90s. And mainstream pop in the early 2000s was still tolerable.

My favorite era of music has to be between the Late 70's to the early 90's so just to make it one answer I out my vote on the 80's

@hawkguy: a metal head? Who is your favorite?

#30 Posted by silkyballfro94 (1494 posts) - - Show Bio

I think the 60s and 70s really started to see a transformation with Rock in the mix. Though I like 90s Rock the best.

Hell yeah Iron Maiden.

It's hard for me though, a lot of my favorite bands were from the 80s, but I do like a lot of 90s and modern stuff (2000+)

Slightly....it's mostly based of of the fact the fact that the 60s was an explosion of what fueled everything afterwards.

Damn, a favorite modern metal band? That's tough... I'll go with Mors Principium Est. Their album this year, "...And Death Said Live", blew me away.

If you're not a fan of harsh vocals, you've been warned

You?

#36 Edited by warlock360 (27916 posts) - - Show Bio

@lunacyde: my initial comment was directed towards the "pop" of that decade, I am well aware that prodigious musical talents are overflowing more than ever but the ones that hog all the pop attention are just blatant horribad.

Justin bieber era

The modern era of music is horrible!! 60's-80's was the best....with the 80's at the top!

#39 Posted by The_Titan_Lord (4517 posts) - - Show Bio

40-70's would probably be the best era for love music IMO.

80-90's-Rock, Boy bands

Early 2000's are also good other than that I don't really get much of the music right now. There's a lot of weird artist/singers and I just find them too freaky. lol

The future, whether that's hearing an old song you never heard before or a new one that just came out. Nothing quite like hearing a great song for the first time :)

I wish there was an "All the Above and Beyond" option. Every era has had and will have fantastic music.

OK, you got me there.

A few good bands break through into good pop these days. Personally I like Of Monsters and Men, Mumford and Sons, Philip Phillips, etc.

Most of the stuff I love is pretty obscure though.
