Some people say that bending in Legend of Korra is completely different from the way it was in Last Airbender. To some degree, new styles have developed, but you can still see the elements of the classical styles. Sometimes you even see moves straight from A:TLA. Here's just a few parallel moves I've noticed, more hopefully to come

Again, just a few parallel moves I noticed, if anyone's interested. Feel free to share any if you'd like to

But @arcus didn't you know, TLA characrers are just better because they were ZOMG PRODIGIES ELITE SUPER MAGA AWESOME. Seriously, I think one of the reason people look down on Korra characters is because these types of terms weren't thrown around ever other episode.

Katara was Korra's waterbending teacher, and probably the greatest waterbender in the world in her prime, some techniques are bound to be passed on.

And basic bending forms for all elements will always stick around. Never seen a difference in style, just power.

The bending in LOK just seems....weaker somehow. Maybe it's more focused and disciplined from what we seen in TLAB, hard to say.

Sometimes it does, true. It tends to emphasize speed and accuracy over power.

Then you have moments like this

Honestly it was mostly just in season 1. After that I'd honestly say it was about even.

The waterbenders such as Tonraq, & Eska & Desna feel more like earthbenders than waterbenders.

@arcus: well mako did show the best lightning bending, unalaq had the best water bending. Amon had the best Bloodbending.

People who just say LOK has low end bending are just hating on the show.

yup, not to mention lavabending, and metalbending. But, i think earthbending was a bit nerfed ? Like, even the dai lis could bend very well and somehow have generally greater raw poer than earthbenders in TLOK :/

@alphaeyght2: yeah, but their earth bending kinda lack power, though their skill is on par with TLAB, bolin had good agility, the chi-blockers were very good fodders, Amon is more terrifying than Ozai. That being said, both shows are just on par with eachother.

@arcus: I think it works in the way that H2H and marital arts have change to adapt to modern times in the real world. Since LOK is in the future of course they will have progressed more, but they have the same foundations.

Interesting concept though.

I think it's pretty clear that bending in ATLA and LOK were on par with each other. The only book you can reasonably claim the bending was weaker was in book 1, and that's only because Mako and Bolin hadn't really developed their skills for live combat, just for sport. Book 2 onward their bending showed a marked improvement, and they were at least in the same league as most benders in ATLA.

Even then in book 1 you had things like Tenzin launching a massive mecha hundreds of feet into the air and Korra riding on her waterspout. The bending clearly wasn't weaker, it was just Mako and Bolin not being more than above average benders at the time and everyone focusing on their bending displays while ignoring the characters around them.

Not to mention, Tenzin can also perform the air spout, technique only Roku was shown to do in ATLA.

bending is still bending lol of course you will see tons of similar moves -_- outside pro-bending, I would think that it is mostly the same(same principles, techniques, stances etc just with added moves and variations)

well they say first impressions last haha, and LOK initially focused on pro-bending so it really was different, but later on as we move out of the arena you see them falling back into the styles we are all familiar with from ATLA.

btw when it comes to the level of bending, I can't really say which series had more powerful bending. Off the bat my mind goes to ATLA but arguments could be made i favor of LOK. HOWEVER, ATLA earthbending>>>>LOK earthbending imo

The only styles that were different were the pro bending styles and moves, everything else was pretty much the same. LOK had more of a "modern" feel to some of their bending techniques, though.

Id like to compare it like this:

Think of ancient martial art forms and newer more modern forms.

imo the unique bending (metal, combustion, lava, blood) are better in lok then in atla, but normal bending (4 elements) is stronger in atla, just seems like the feats with regular bending in atla are consistently higher then lok

unique bendings are better at LoK cause that bendings are not used regularly / not seen at all at TLA.

It is just LoK looks like weak to me. Just OP at the unique bends. If this is a battle thread and only using normal bending, then I will side to TLA.

btw I think Earth Rumble contestants can beat Pro-benders
