I know there's a saying that "everything that once was will be again" but damn it feels like in general alot of the things in the entertainment industry in particular are copied and overdone. This can apply to any part of of life though. What are your thoughts?
Are people losing the ability to be original
Creativity is derived from inspiration. It's almost impossible to have an original concept. But that doesn't mean you can't have an original idea.

Well said.
There becomes less original ideas as time goes on and it becomes harder to be unique. Still, if you want originality then the internet is the best place to find.
I was thinking something along these lines a few weeks ago, does seem to be the case sometimes but it's always refreshing when you do see something that takes you by surprise.

It feels the same to me as well, at least through mainstream media. Less chance is taken with originality and barely disguised imitation of what worked for another director or film studio is the norm. Vampires became cool again, so everything became about vampires. Then werewolves and zombies and so on. There is something to be said about nothing being completely original through an artistic point of view but I think when it comes to generating money, truly creative products aren't being sought after by those with the funds to back them up. You can see this in movies and television shows. It feels like what's being pumped out is just regurgitated slop of what's been proven to sell, but with enough of a spin to not get sued. Then it's bombardment of marketing.
I like the idea behind kickstarters. At least there is a way around being dependent on big business to get your vision out to the masses. Let's hope they don't get eaten up by the corporate monster as well.
I look at it this way. Randy Blythe from Lamb of God said " Every cool riff ever has already been written by Black Sabbath"
And yet, for 40 years there have been all different kinds of metal out, with bands playing in ways that Black Sabbath could never imagine.
I think you can be original by putting your own, unique twist on an established idea.
