Yes, all human actions are drive by a primal instinct, hunting/Gathering/hoarding/pro-creating, there's no way around it, no matter how philosophical you get. Humanity means selfish ness, you can sometimes fight against it - but in the end you would do it for a selfish reason.

But I do realize I am selfish in most things. Even when doing something for someone else. I wouldn't say it motivates me though, more of a trait.

Yes, every thing we do is motivated by selfish desires. If we see a child playing on the rail road tracks and a train is coming and it's going to hit the child, we save the child for selfish reasons because we don't want to live with the guilt that we didn't do something to save the child. A person can also save the child from death because they don't want to live with fact knowing that the child's death would cause so much pain towards the child's family. Every action we do is motivated by selfishness, BUT not all of it is bad. A lot of the selfish acts we do is to help people.

I think selfishness and the inclination towards greed are inherent to human nature. Society just likes to pretend its better than that and look down upon those that freely admit what everyone to some capacity is, selfish. Its also why I don't believe money itself is the root of all evil.

Humans are inherently good. Always remember that.

I believe human beings are motivated by fear. The fear of failure. The fear of control. The fear of one's own capabilities. But most of all the fear of weakness.

Without out fear, selfishness could not exist. Fear is our greatest strength simultaneously our greatest weakness.
