Alan Moore calls on major religions to clean up their act.

Alan Moore has challenged the world's great religions to “clean up their act” in the wake of the murder of cartoonists on the Charlie Hebdo magazine in France.

The Northampton writer and comic book creator has delivered a stark challenge for religion to put its house in order.

He said: “It is probably time for something to be done with regard to monotheistic religion cleaning up its act. It is not about Islam, Jews or Christians. If you come from the position that there is only one God and He's yours then only one thing can happen when you meet someone who thinks differently. It is not rocket science although as we have seen in Afghanistan, rocket science will probably enter into it.

“I am not saying people should not be free to join whichever religion they choose but should we be forced to live our lives around a belief system that originated somewhere around the fourth or fifth century BC. I cannot see any more reason to base a belief system around Christianity, Judaism or Islam than I can around Lord of the Rings.”

Alan follows a personal magic based religion he developed while researching his books. It is embedded with the same wry wit found in his work and features a sock puppet Roman snake god called Glycon.

Alan issued a direct challenge to the moderates of all faiths not to tolerate sermons of hate.

He said: “The majority of followers in Christianity, Judaism and Islam are moderates but it is time for those people to step up. The problems that your radicals are causing are creating quite a mess in your own backyard. It does not reflect well on the Abrahamic religions.

“Couldn't organisations with this much fear and intimidation associated with them be classed as mafiosi and be dismantled by the authorities? If you don't do this yourselves then you will live your lives forever tainted with these terrible crimes against humanity.”

That ''wackjob'' is telling monotheistic religion to clean up it's act because legitimate murdering wackjobs brought this topic to spotlight with Charlie Hebdo. He is right to an extent, monotheistic religions give greater fuel to religious fundamentalism.

After researching him, reading his work, and hearing numerous things about this guy from all sorts of people all I can say is that he has some nerve......I get his point but he should be the last person trying to make this case. Also his case doesn't add up that well......

There's a lot of killing done by people of no religion too.

Whatever he may have said, all it takes is a rational person to make this case...

Radicals aren't religious peoples responsibility, just like it's not Atheist's responsibility to stop murderers without a belief system.

*sigh* yes. But it's not what this is all about. Right now everyone is talking about "Charlie Hebdo" and the terrorist attack on them. And the attack was made by religious people. So, now everyone in media will be talking about all the religious wars and death caused by them.

Pope Francis just gave several talks directed at Islam to tone it down, but Christianity is separate from Islam in terms of seeking retaliation for being wronged. You don't see similar reactions from Christians in recent years, because Christianity teaches to turn the other cheek and vengeance is the Lord's; the news is also filled with stories of Christians facing persecution from people of the Muslim faith (e.g. a Christian woman is currently facing a death sentence in Pakistan for practicing her Christian faith in Pakistan). It's a gross generalization to just bunch Christianity, Judaism, and Islam together in issues where people of the Muslim faith engage in incidents like that in the Charlie Hebdo incident while ignoring the persecution of Christians in different places around the world. Why didn't North Korea come to his mind?

@dimitridkatsis: Crossed relies on shock factor quite a bit but at least thats sort of its point and it has other redeeming qualities. Neonomicon though… my favorite shock, gore, sex series is The Boys, that series has some moments heh heh but its also got a heart too.
