Poll Action: Who does it better? Zack Snyder, Michael Bay or Peter Jackson? (47 votes)

Snyder 47%
Bay 2%
Jackson 51%

Primarily films they've directed and fall under the "action" genre. So who is it? Snyder (300, Man of Steel), Bay (Transformers, Pearl Harbor), or Jackson (Lord of the Rings series, King Kong)?

for small group combat or 1v1, I choose Zack.

For large scale battles, I'm not sure I've seen better than the original LOTR trilogy.

Hmm, I feel Zack has the most potential among everyone here, Jackson is the most well rounded, and Michael can create the flashiest action scenes.

Jackson stomps. The action and scale of LOTR was epic and grand than Bay's repetitive explosion set pieces and Snyder's CGI destruction porn.

Well, Jackson's action typically had a purpose and direction and added to the theme of the film.

Yeah people will deny it because they're too busy crying over MoS, but Zack knows how to shoot combat on a small scale better than anyone. And I include the Spartans as small scale since it was "300" of them (and really only focused on a few).

Sucker Punch for all its flaws is wonderfully shot film. Its absolutely breath taking visually. And 300 was so good in pretty much inspired several movies since and created its own style of visual. Even the sequel, the fights were terrific.

Watchman too, awesome fights.

And yeah. MoS was easily the best super powered combat we've ever seen imo. And Faora was probably the only CBM that focused on her strength, power and skill instead of making her a love interest or a sexual attraction. (not that she could be unsexy :P)

But the Battles of Helmsdeep and Minas Tirith are just legendary army-style fights. Especially the charge of the Riders of Rohirrim.

Snyder does Bayhem.

So he copy Bay too.

If i dont vote bay, less i am going to vote people that use his style.

Jackson is the best in the list.

Both Snyder and Bay have a way of filming action that puts style over substance and it can be hard to tell what's going on or the scale of the action just doesn't register. Jackson on the other hand is incredibly skilled at getting the tension of the moment across and doing things on a very large scale. It's one thing to simply have action that looks cool, it's another to have action that the viewer cares about the setting and end result of.

Zack Snyder relies too much on camera tricks to make the action look interesting, like shaky cam and slow motion, and sometimes....it still winds up looking cheesy. I remember in Watchmen where there is an action scene in a prison with Nite Owl and Specter battling down a hallway there is a bunch of slow motion and posing which just looks so silly. I remember that "Sucker Punch" movie having a bunch of blatant wire work and posing as well.

Peter Jackson isn't really an action director, but he does pretty well.

I guess Michael Bay wins. If anything, he can shoot action scenes. People don't hate him because he sucks at action......he is good at that. People hate him because his films are vacuous

Russo brothers for 'realistic-action' movies.

Jackson for 'epic' battles.

I know it's gimmicky with the slo mo fast mo, but I like Snyder's action scenes. I'm not a big fan of Peter Jackson as a whole, but I will say he does a good job with his action moments.

I would say Snyder does a better job coming up with awesome lookin visuals while Jackson is much better at adding an emotional context to the action scenes. I felt scared of the baddies in Lord of the Rings and endsngered in his sci-fi movies.

Pretty much this. Snyder and Bay can't touch the epicness that Peter gave to us on the large screen.

Jackson because of the three, he's the only one that can direct actions scenes that don't end up boring me.

As PURE action films I'm gonna go with Snyder. He's great at it. I loved Man of Steel, 300, Dawn of the Dead ETC.

For Movies with great stories and a lot of substance I'll go with Peter Jackson. I've never found his ACTION to be fantastic but still really good.

For... 'movies' where I can turn my brain off, go on the computer and occasionally glance up at the TV Screen to see Explosions I'll go with Michael Bay.
