A radical political-party has gained major traction in Greece...

Amid financial catastrophes plaguing the entire EU, and devastating austerity cuts in Greece, a new party which refers to itself as "Golden Dawn" has emerged, and despite what many felt to be indicators of this just being a predicated consequence of the austerity measures, the party has grown, and continues to do so.

I'm pretty sure alot of Europe has immigration issues since Europe is comprised with multiple different countries compacted into one part of a continent with several closely bordered continents. Just think of if each state in the U.S was its own country. Also, Greece has its history on this issue since Aristotle, even before him. I'm not surprised that their rallying for this. It's for the pride of Greece.

"Golden Dawn"

Interestingly enough, members of their party are adamant about driving a war-machine to invade Macedonia, Cyprus, and other surrounding sovereign nations which they feel should be Greek, or something to that effect. Most likely, though, they will in fact try this if they are to gain a majority within the nation's top offices and if they were to nationalize it's industries, thus creating an economic boom of sorts that is driven by the motivation for expansion.

It seems like the WMF and the ECB need to get their heads out of their asses and realize that they are looking at the beginnings of ethnic cleansing and the possible re-writting of the Greek constitution, which might lead to expansion into neighboring countries.

@White Mage: Europe has been bogged down by an influx of immigrants over the past two decades. Even the northernmost nations (Scandinavia) have begun to notice an increase in Middle Eastern immigrants, which has led to plenty of contention and rising crime-rates.

Now, I have a close friend who lives in northern Sweden, but he has told me that the problem is intensifying to a point where certain countries are enacting strict immigration legislation, and others, such as France under the Sarkozy administration, were tackling the problems head on, by banning burkas in public and increasing police-surveilance of areas in Paris where immigrants typically lived.

@Magethor: No, I am a U.S. citizen. The news about this growing party scares me because it sounds like a rising fascist movement.

@Magethor: @Illuminatus:

Wow......I must say though, whether I agree with them or not, I'm typically impressed whenever any group manages to gain numbers in a protest...

Not really surprising. In times of economic trouble, these types of groups always seem to become popular.

This feels like a new Germany.

Then again I'm only looking at this superficially.

But financial problems on repeat -> new radical party -> Very bad things happen.

You're not the only one looking at it in this regard.

Unfortunately, Greece simply does not have the wherewithal or resources necessary to launch some massive military campaign that the UN won't squash. Most likely, you'll see plenty of violence within Greece's own borders.

A lot of people adopt the "We need change because something has to change" and believe that something new will be better, which is fine when it's i regards to a new couch or haircut but this is a country.

I would be even more worried if I lived in Greece, as if the country wasn't in bad enough shape.

Yeah, in comparison to other parts of Europe, Southern and Eastern Europe tend to have stronger Neo-Fascist/Neo-Nazi problems. There have been quite a few attacks on brown-skinned immigrants (from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, etc.) in Greece as of this year. It is incredibly ironic because Nazism subjugated Greece in World War 2. Russia apparently has the most problems, though.

It's really all about illegal immigration and poverty.

Cultural violence on a brutal scale has already started to pop up throughout the media of Europe, evidently.

I've also spoken to a Greek, and he says that this is not necessarily out of the ordinary, but the sprawling growth of it is "disconcerting". He also imagines that anti-Turkish hostilities/rhetoric becoming far more mainstream is not far off if Golden Dawn continues to gain power.

True, illegal immigration hs been a major problem here in Greece and the rest of Europe. And especially if you consider Greece's position in the map, being so close to Asia and Africa. Now we, unlike others countries in the EU, are a small country, our population is about 11 million people with over a million of them being immigrants (can't remember exact numbers now). Unfortunately a lot of immigrants, have been transported here illegally, they have no papers or money and so they are forced to steal etc in order to survive. But it is not also their fault. I blame the state as well for not having the guts to deal with this problem. Drastic measures need to be taken in order for this problem to be solved but I don't see this happening anytime soon. As for the Golden Dawn party, while I can agree with some of the things they say, mostly when it comes to illegal immigrants, their ways and that Nazi-like philosophy they have, will only make things worse.

Economic and Social Problems can and will enable the rise of nationalistic and sometimes fascist idealism, often to bad results to the country and it's neighbors.

However a Nazi Germany situation is unlikely, country needs to regain it's strenght first and the world isn't like it was at the time(The Allies are far more united and militaristic than at the time and no tech gap this time).

But looking from an internal angle it can get pretty ugly if this party gains more power. If situation gets too bad,EU will surely intervene as they don't like problems on their region especially THESE kind of problems.

I don't think that it is anything like Nazi Germany. Those times included hyperinflation, the Great Depression and the effects of the Treaty of Versailles. It's as the Joker said in The Dark Knight. "When the chips are down, these, uh, "civilized" people, ... they'll eat each other."
