Interesting, how long do you think they would actually last? Also, this is just a few people, I'm sure if there were a petition for the opposite there would be a lot more signatures.

Texas is hilarious.

Whatever happens to it, I hope Texas BBQ remains for many years to come. So darn good.

I really need to get the hell out of this state.

@InnerVenom123: it's a relatively cheap place to live and has lots of jobs. You could do what I do and ignore people.. alot, or move to Austin.

That's only because the Dallas Cowboys have sucked for a while. Once they win a Superbowl Texas will calm its butt down.

You and me both. Though I'm a republican, the extremists in this party really cost us this year. And this state has its fair share of 'em.

@Icarus_Ashes: I'm right outside of Austin. I guess moving into the city proper could help my perspective of this doomed horrible land a bit more.

#16 Posted by Icarus_Ashes (17 posts) - 6 months, 13 days ago - Show Bio

If the Spurs win one more this state could float off in the ocean for all I care. But neither of those things will probably happen.

Texas to withdraw from USA, means no army, police, services, and other stuff countries need.

#18 Posted by Icarus_Ashes (17 posts) - 6 months, 13 days ago - Show Bio

@InnerVenom123: Ah I wish I lived closer to Austin. I recently discovered Austin Books and Comics the last time I was there for a show, and it was one of the best things I've ever seen. I don't live too far but its still a pain to drive up there and back everytime a good band is playing, which is all the time.

Either they get taken over by another country, or likely the US would still have to defend them.

Would it be possible for Texas to take Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina with them? I can even think of a couple other states... but I dont want to get greedy.

Any bets on how long it'd take before they come begging to be let back in the Union?

Maybe a week tops? I don't think they're like it once China or another country tries to invade them.

Let them. See how fast their economy crashes.

#24 Posted by White Mage (18691 posts) - 6 months, 13 days ago - Show Bio

Can they even afford this?

I dont see the military issue being a real problem. Whether they'd want it or not, the U.S. wouldnt allow another country to invade them. And, realistically, China is way too far off. Mexico certainly isnt a real threat. Same with Cuba (forget Red Dawn).

No, the real problem for them would be they'd no longer have the huge influx of cash from all those "blue" states that currently subsidize them.

#28 Posted by Vortex13 (10792 posts) - 6 months, 13 days ago - Show Bio

@WillPayton: Did you know they're making a remake of Red Dawn? What cracks me up is Chris Hemsworth is playing the lead, he's Australian and he's playing a marine that got back from the war and now has to protect his country from the threat of the commies. Though I think they are using North Korea in this one, which allows them to keep the title I guess.

Never going to happen.
Although if it did, Texas might be well off.
Seeing how they have cattle, farms, oil, and sea ports, etc.
The state also has the most military bases (Not sure what would happen to them though without government funding.)

Yeah, the original wasnt a classic or anything, but this one aint looking that good. Was supposed to be the Chinese as the bad guys, but they changed it to the N. Koreans. =(

I live near the most liberal area, Austin.

And before that, I lived in Houston.

Never worn a cowboy hat of my own free will, same with boots.

If you wear that down here outside of a ranch or some such bullsh*t, you get your ass kicked. Or at least laughed at.

Good. We'll cut off any power that might be traveling over state lines, as well as everything else that is "USA" and set up border patrols and require passports for anyone entering and exiting.

Also they can't use the US currency anymore. It'll fall apart pretty quick then if the US made them do all that.

#43 Posted by Brazen_Intellect (1089 posts) - 6 months, 13 days ago - Show Bio

I've been there before, they can have it

#44 Posted by Matchstick (561 posts) - 6 months, 13 days ago - Show Bio

Good, they can just go. That way we don't have to make new flags when Puerto Rico becomes a state.

#45 Posted by Icarus_Ashes (17 posts) - 6 months, 12 days ago - Show Bio

I can't speak too much about other areas of the US, but I lived in central Florida for 8 months and that was enough to bring me back home and never live anywhere else again. Also, Texas seems popular among people from California who can't afford to live there. They come here, complain about how much it sucks here but then continue to live the rest of thier amazing lives here with their oversized Laker jerseys, food stamps and 10 kids.

I was born and raised in Texas. Yes, some of the people are ignorant and some of society is way behind the times but not everyone there is a complete idiot.
