Okay so on topic then...

1. Is Shock value a legitimate reasons for Art pieces to exsist in of themselves?

2. If not, do you think that incorporating elements into Art is justified, if they attract people who can then exposed to the underlying meanings?

3. To what extent is Shock value important in launching and Maintaining an Artists career?

4. Are you creeped out by Laflux's thread choices as of late?

I don't think shock value on its own can make a thing artistic, I personally think that shock alone makes a piece entertainment rather than art. But then I guess it very much depends on the intention of the artist, its a contextual thing. Definitely I think testing the limits of what we can comfortably accept and confront has a certain artistic merit, since so much of art is to do with the exploration and expression of human nature.

I think that it can be tempting for people to go straight for the shocking in an attempt to draw attention but also believe that such tactics are sort of tacky and gimmicky. Unless there is substance to go along with it, it's really nothing more than cheap thrills and attention seeking.

The Thread is a microcosm of art work I'm talking about. The 365 Days of Penis title of the thread clearly is going to turn heads. But within it, is an open discussion about art that is ready to be tapped into. Yes there has been some slightly silly comments, but also some insightful ones. A Mod has posted freely, saying its interesting. I don't think the thread is pointless, at all.

People may take this as a simple joke, but its not, at least not in my eyes. If it was just me trolling the thread would have been locked. Can you honestly say you had any idea who Milo Moiré was before reading this , or did you just instantly turn your mind off when you saw the title and thought it was a waste of thread space. I'm not really mad if you did the latter, they are enough troll threads- some made by me, to warrant a response like that.

I can understand why you may not like this thread. But to a few people at least, there has been the opportunity to get some meaningful discussion from here, and for that I'm grateful.

Same, but you and Jedi's responses where nice. Yes I knew part of the thread was going to get a cheap laugh or sigh, and I acknowledged that a bit (maybe too much with the auto-fellatio joke), but considering Capfanboy also crashed the thread, it could have gone alot worse :P
