Now after my "Real men suck Dick thread", I can totally understand why after watching the following video (if they decide to do so), people may think that I'm sexually confused, or just trolling. I'm...... ummm probably not the first and I'm definitely not doing the later (in this particular post). Truth is I have long been a detractor of certain forms art which I think rather than trying to portray any meaningful idea, entices an audience through shock and hype. A great example being of the conveniently attractive woman, Milo Moiré, who while naked, gave birth to coloured eggs from an elevated position onto a piece of paper to make a drawing. Recently though, I found myself doubting this type of viewpoint when I came across this video 365 Days of Penis.
Shown to me by a friend as a way to garner my amusement, I thought that it would illicit the same sense of ire that I usually feel with these things, but after a "somewhat" childish chuckle, I was struck not only by the talent of the artist in question, but on a personal level, the richness and variety of Human life that each drawing portrayed (up until he started drawing animal phalluses anyway). I was also impressed the way the concept was executed and delivered. But I couldn't help feel that I was contradicting myself by liking it. I eventually self-reassured that if it wasn't for the nature of this work, it probably wouldn't have been shown to me in the first place, and that its "shock value" was secondary the real worth of the piece. But it got me thinking. My view is ultimately subjective, so I would like to take the chance to ask CV a few questions
1. Is Shock value a legitimate reasons for Art pieces to exsist in of themselves?
2. If not, do you think that incorporating elements into Art is justified, if they attract people who can then exposed to the underlying meanings?
3. To what extent is Shock value important in launching and Maintaining an Artists career?
4. Are you creeped out by Laflux's thread choices as of late?
The Video's and links will be posted below. I will like to take the opportunity to say that this is (semi) NSFW,so if you do not like drawings of Phalluses, don't click the link or watch the video. Also if any Moderator wishes to speak to me or feel I should make any edits to the posts, so be it.
