The Zimmerman case made headlines because the details were incredibly murky regarding who was in the right and who was in the wrong, with much of it being a he-said, he-said deal (only with one of the he's not being around to defend himself) and it brought up questions of racial profiling and vigilante justice. The details being murky meant there was space for alternative theories to start emerging, for standpoints to develop, and thus for conflicts of opinion and the ensuing controversy.
This isn't getting as much attention because there is no space for debate over who was right and who was wrong. The people who did this were monsters and no one's denying that. It's tragic, but it's an open and shut case and thus not really going to be perceived by the media as something that'll catch lasting attention. The problem with threads that post this link and this question (and there have been plenty of them, all over the internet) is that they sort of presume that there's a need to, I dunno, even the score? Between blacks and whites? The idea that crimes committed by black people aren't covered as extensively as crimes committed by white people and therefore there's some kind of need to make sure people are aware of the fact that look, black people can do bad things too? It's just sort of a silly and overly simplistic view on the media. Although I suppose you could say that their coverage being contingent on content that'll linger in the public memory whether due to controversy or the legal process underfoot is a simple idea as well. It's probably a range of reasons. I'm rambling.
EDIT: Also, @avenger85, you should be ashamed of yourself. You are taking a tragedy and trying to milk it comparing it to a case where it shares no similarities.
I would much prefer someone like Frank Castle to be alive.

This is why I hate humanity,besides the points already mentioned by the likes of @citizenbane and others,I am sick of people always trying to make things into an "us vs them" type of thing.
Why didn't it get national attention Ike the Zimmerman case? Because the perpetrators were arrested. Zimmerman was only arrested a month after because of the pressure from the nation. Not to mention, Zimmerman profiled Trayvon and in the case you mentioned was an indiscriminate murder Robbery.
Also this case is strange. Gun power residue was found on the mother and the father(who was nowhere near the scene). No gun powder was found on the suspects. One of the suspects, was said to be at a family meal at the time of the incident.
And this was true injustice so of course it wouldn't make the media. The Spooner case didn't make the news because there was no self defense, since the guy shot the kid point blank after he put his hands up.
