After being exposed to extra-dimensional energy, Lt. Monica Rambeau gained the ability to manipulate all energies of the electromagnetic spectrum. She has gone by many code-names over the years whilst utilizing these abilities as a crime fighter. Monica has served alongside the Avengers in various incarnations and operated as their leader for a time.
Me: Dear Mr Brevoort. I just wanted to ask if there any plans for Monica Rambeau to appear in anything. She's one of my favourite Marvel characters, so it's unfortunate that she's not regularly appearing in any ongoing titles, especially when some other characters can be seen in a variety of titles every month. If there aren't currently any plans for a regular spot on a team or in a solo title(either would be great), is there at least the chance of an A+X team up? Thanks for your time. :)
Tom Brevoort: Boy, I’m going to make you a happy man later on in the day…
This must surely mean that she's about to be announced as being a regular in a team or in a solo title! :D
YEY - but also funny how Brevoort assumed you were a male heh heh. I am glad about this, I wonder where she will appear! I hope team book because I would be worried her book would be cancelled unfortunately.
@wisesonac@windcaster@shadowx@miss_garrick You all seemed interested in Monica based on your comments in the Mighty thread, so I feel I should draw your attention to this.
@akbogert: @sc: Yeah, unfortunate gender defaulting, but never mind.
I heard yesterday, possibly from a Tom Brevoort tweet, that the Mighty line-up wasn't fully announced, even though the six hexagons have been filled, so a place on that team seems the most likely at this point, but I suppose it could be something else.
A solo ongoing title could be risky, but a mini-series could be nice. :)
She would be a great leader for that book!! The Mighty line up, I felt it was a bit too small. Oh man fingers crossed, I would be thrilled with her as leader, team spot okay but she deserves leader to me.
@aiden_cross: She not my very favourite, but she's definitely in my top ten Avengers.
As with many characters, I struggle to pinpoint exactly why I like them so much, but her powers are interesting, and have been shown to be useful(the ability to convert her body into various types of energy). She's shown leadership qualities, leading the Avengers for a while in the late 80s, and NextWave in the mid-late 2000s. I can't quite explain, but I just really like her for some reason. :)
@aiden_cross: Yeah, she became Avengers leader in one of the early issues in the Avengers: Assault on Olympus book,(I can't remember which particular issue, it's been a few months since I read it) if you're ever interested in looking into it. :)
well, she's officially in the team with a new, very cool costume... I like a lot this lineup, and she fits the role(without Blue Marvel it would have been a perfect team)
Field leader to me counts as leader, so that's really good, I like the new costume, it's much like a new version of her original Captain Marvel suit, Spectrum is a cool name, but most importantly, Monica Monthly! :D
I'm not really a fan of Greg Land, but never mind, I'll still buy it. :)
Really happy for u Scarlotte...great when a Benched character you love gets back in the spotlight. Love Monica, thrilled about her being on this team, love the new codename and the costume looks awesome. Yay.

i dont think itt was gender defaulting. i think he meant boy the same way old folks be using it. " boy, have i got a suprise for you" idk i could be wrong
@v_scarlotte_rose: Great artwork of Monica Rambeau Spectrum! Also yes its great new details are released, its such a cool team and especially with the inclusion of White Tiger! I am not overly fond of Monica's new hair but really really like her new outfit and more than that am just glad for her new role in a monthly book.
Can't wait for her interactions with She Hulk, Superior Spidy and Blue Marvel especially and just the interpersonal going ons in the book. Great diversity with the team too, its great. Will try ignore one of my least favorite artists is here and will support book anyway.
@sc: Yeah, I would have preferred her previous hairstyle, but it's a small sacrifice to make for the sake of her appearance.
I'm mostly going to buy it for Monica and She-Hulk, but it'll be good to see what the rest of the cast are like. The only other one I'm kind of familiar with is Luke Cage, as I only know Falcon and Superior from brief appearances in Avengers. The rest of the cast, I don't think I've read at all before.
Shame about Greg Land, but artists can move on to other projects, so we may get someone great at some point. :)

Yes I love Monica Rambeau! Can't wait for this to come out! Is everyone in the second pick going to be on the team?
@thundergodswrath: I don't know much about him, though I've seen a lot of people say that they wanted to see him again, so hopefully the fans will get something good out of this series.

Q: This team also features two veteran Avengers in the form of Falcon and Monica Rambeau, who is adopting the code name Spectrum. Besides their past connection to the Avengers, what else do you feel these characters bring to the book?
A: Monica, meanwhile -- well, she adds Monica. The first Avengers I read, she led, so having her back as co-leader -- and field leader -- is a massive thing for me. I remember from the Roger Stern days that she had a habit of not taking any nonsense from anybody, including people like Namor and Zeus, and more recently she refused to put up with shenanigans from Machine Man, Baby Modok and various other oddities in Warren Ellis' "Nextwave." I'll be continuing that tradition as best I can, having her brook no funny business from a new generation of teammates and bad guys.

Two? I would have said four(or kind of five), as I thought that was her flying. Maybe I'm looking at it wrong. Thanks for posting. :)
Covers! :)
Heh heh good point. I think I don't want to acknowledge the one she is being hit by the magic spear. Also I am not a big Greg Land fan but I am good with black and white lines so far.
Also I love that second cover you posted. Its my favorite of the three. All three would make good posters! Thanks for posting them.
Just read an interview with Al Ewing, and this is sounding good for Monica:
Monica “Spectrum” Rambeau
“Monica's an old favorite of mine from my childhood, and it's great to be writing her,” notes Ewing.
The super hero formerly known as Lady-of-Light, Daystar, Photon and Sceptre once led the Avengers into battle as Captain Marvel—to the constant consternation of her colleagues in Nextwave some time later. Imbued with electromagnetic power, Monica can transform into any number of energy waves, from gamma and cosmic rays to electricity and various forms of light. Such transformations afford Monica the ability to fly and travel at super speeds, emit energy blasts and achieve intangibility.
Most importantly, she appears at the right place at the right time.
“She's the other ‘core member,’” explains Ewing. “One of the original three to show up to Proxima Midnight's attack—four if you count The Splendiferous Spider Hero—and when we join her, she's making a push to establish a new hero identity as Spectrum, which involves some rebranding on her part: a new costume, a new look.”
“Historically, she's always been at her best in a leadership position,” the writer continues, “So she's the field leader of the team. She has a say in the overall direction as well, but down on the ground in the thick of it, she calls the shots. She's the backbone of the Mighty Avengers—strong-willed, pragmatic and powerful—but there are a couple of nagging questions: what prompted this sudden rebranding, and will a spot on this team be enough for her in the long run?”
Backbone of the team, a core member, a favourite of the writer. This sounds like she's going to be handled well in this series. :)
And this may just be wishful thinking, but does that last highlighted part sound like a hint towards a solo series to anyone else?
@v_scarlotte_rose: Thanks for interview, I tend to be skeptical of writers wording when it comes to hints at solo series. The way I interpret that is almost like if this book sells really well then we can have a Monica Rambeau series but only if it sells well, which means buy this book everyone!! I am not sure the current market could allow for a solo series, but I'd love to be proven wrong.
I hear some rumors and shuffling that the series is under-ordered by comic retailers worried it won't do well, thats a bit worrying, not that they don't have the right to, but will be frustrating either way if they are right or if fans want to buy it but can't. In more positive news, here is a preview of issue one on sale next week.
