Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.

Director J.J. Abrams says, "We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud."

Star Wars: Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer. The movie opens worldwide on December 18, 2015.

Who else besides me is excited?

So cool!!

#7 Posted by Foggen (15 posts) - - Show Bio

Max von Sydow has to be either the head of the Imperial Remnant (or whatever non-EU equivalent) or a Sith lord.

John Williams as composer is one of the most important castings in my opinion.

Max Von Sydow! I love him in old Bergman films.

#16 Posted by kennybaese (1151 posts) - - Show Bio

I don't really know many of these names, but with some Googling, I'm excited for most of them.

More though, I'm excited that Kasdan did the script.

Max Von Sydow (Ming the Merciless!) Hmm Sith Lord maybe?

#20 Edited by nrgb2814 (118 posts) - - Show Bio

I love them all already... Going into this movie with 1999 Phantom Menace excitement but with Empire expectations!!!

#21 Edited by orionbolt (28 posts) - - Show Bio

No Alexandria Daddario..............I was hoping for a female lead jedi

#22 Edited by VaizD (250 posts) - - Show Bio

Von Sydow is SO the villain.

#23 Posted by GodOfMischief (641 posts) - - Show Bio

Haha, actually I just recognised John Boyega too.

#24 Posted by Captain13 (3511 posts) - - Show Bio

So excited that John Boyega got a role. Too bad Zac Efron didn't. That guy is more talented than he gets credit for and deserves a chance at a summer franchise film.

Hopefully Lando will at least cameo.

That would be sweet. My other side of the coin fear is that they'd use him as an Obi-Wan hologram replacement...I certainly hope that's not the case!

I am so ridiculously excited to see Serkis.

Also, was I the only one who got a little sentimental by seeing R2 in the picture?

So cool. That Daisy Ridley looks so much like Natalie Portman on her imdb profile. But that's a good thing. And Max von Sydow? Very good choice for either villain or some old and wise Jedi master. I might have have liked Ian McKellen better, but then again he can't be in every movie franchise, right? (Although I wished he was)

#32 Posted by The_Tree (7864 posts) - - Show Bio

Boyega, Isaac, Driver, and Serkis have me very excited.

#33 Posted by MrMazz (1322 posts) - - Show Bio

Max von Sydow is an interesting choice! Adam Driver and Oscar Issac are among favorite new actors, highly recommend watching INside llewynn Davis (for Issac) and Girls for Driver. And hey watch the Seventh Seal for Sydow, he's might already have his Sith robes.

#34 Posted by Perfect 10 (1164 posts) - - Show Bio

no idea who any of these people are. is that a good or bad thing?

#35 Edited by XxHeavyRainxX (38 posts) - - Show Bio

@godofmischief: Yeah, me too, except for I also knew Max Von Sydow. But look out for Oscar Isaac and Domhnall Gleeson on the Ex Machina movie being made.

#43 Edited by ILLO_29 (159 posts) - - Show Bio

Max Von Sydow is still going huh, wow.

#44 Posted by Xwraith (20497 posts) - - Show Bio

The only new names I recognized were Max von Sydow and Andy Serkis, but then I looked the other ones up and I was all, "oh, they were in that."

#45 Posted by StrangeMan (411 posts) - - Show Bio

Yay for Oscar Isaac.

#46 Posted by Jonny_Rogers (127 posts) - - Show Bio

No complaints here... especially given that a significant proportion of the new actors are British!

#47 Posted by MannEffest (1299 posts) - - Show Bio

You don't understand how excited I am… This is a phenomenal cast. All aboard the hype train!!!!! :D
